Benefits Of Tea Tree Oil For Acne

Which Comes First – Sunscreen or Moisturizer?

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

The products you use on your face are meant not just to conceal imperfections or increase your beauty, but they also help in maintaining the health of your skin. It is known that constant application of makeup, exposure to the sun, and other factors may lead to the decline of your skin’s health. Because of this, applying sunscreen and moisturizer on your facial skin to prevent acne is a must. However, a lot of people are confused when it comes to the order of application of these products. It is not without reason since both of these products are essential for your skin’s health, and can be applied at the same time and this is where the confusion comes from.

Olive oil removes hair colour? Not really...

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Yes, as always I am trying to get the hair colour out of my hair once again. It hasn't even been a week! This time around though, I'm not using drugstore bought colour strippers. I'm trying other methods. As of right now, crazy as it may seem, I have completely drenched my hair in olive oil and have a plastic bag around my head. And it's almost 2 am so I really have to sleep... So I am going to bed tonight with olive oil in my hair, and a plastic bag on my head. And a towel on top of my pillows so they don't get all greasy in case the bag comes off. I'm really skeptical that this will remove any colour at all, but olive oil is good for the hair anyway, right? So even if it doesn't do anything for my hair colour, at least it will condition my hair over night. I'll come back in the morning with the results.

I just washed the olive oil out using my clarifying shampoo, and the olive oil was so hard to wash out! I shampooed my hair 3 times, left the shampoo in for a few minutes the last time, and I could still feel it in my hair. I have to say though, my hair feels super soft and silky now! But I can still smell the olive oil... And I HATE the smell of olive oil. I don't know if it's just me, or if it actually does, but I honestly think it smells like fish. Oh and of course, my hair didn't lighten one bit. And if it did, it would've been so little that it's not even noticeable. Maybe it's because I didn't apply heat to it. Or maybe it's supposed to be done regularly to gradually lighten it. But I would probably never do this regularly since it is such a hassle to wash out. Now I know though, if I need a good deep conditioning treatment, this is definitely something I can do.

I do have another plan though, and I'm more confident that this one will work. I'm just trying it out now, and waiting for it to do its magic. :)

Heheeeehe it worked! :)

I will be posting a tutorial for it very soon.

The beauty of honey!

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

As you may or may not know, there are so many beauty-related uses for honey! To me, honey is almost like one of those miracle products that do everything. It can be used as a cleanser, a facial mask, a spot treatment, even as a moisturizer. It is also great as a hair treatment, although I won't be talking about that here. It is great for acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, sensitive skin, dry skin, aging skin, and other skin issues such as eczema. It pretty much covers everything. It is amazing.
(Note that I am talking about raw honey here. You don't want to used processed honey here, because through the heat processing that many honeys go through, much of its beneficial properties are killed off.)

So what makes honey so amazing?
- It has antibacterial properties that kills bacteria, making it a great cleanser and treatment for acne.
- It is a natural humectant, meaning that it will draw moisture into your skin. Perfect for dry skin.
- It contains gluconic acid that can help even out and brighten your skin tone and fade acne scarring.
- It also contains many other nutrients that are good for the skin. But I am not a scientist so I don't know about every single nutrient in it and what they all do, so I'll just stick with the first 3 major ones that I talked about.

What about manuka honey? What makes that so special?
In addition to all the properties of regular honey, manuka honey is extra microbial, which makes it even better for fighting acne. I'm assuming many of you know about tea tree oil already, and how it can be used to fight acne due to its antimicrobial and inflammatory properties. Well, manuka honey is made from bees that feed from the manuka (tea tree) bush. So think of it this way - it creates a combination of all the beneficial characteristics of honey and tea tree!

Now, as I discussed in my skincare routine, I use honey mainly as a cleanser and mask. Right now, I mix it with rice powder, ground oatmeal, and a little bit of water and apply it all over my face. This not only helps to clean my face, but also acts like a mask because I let it sit on my face while I brush my teeth and do other stuff. Before though, I was only using the honey by itself for a few months, and it was still amazing. I just recently decided to add a few more ingredients just because I felt like I could benefit from them too, but if I'm lazy or really tired, I don't even bother with the rice powder and oatmeal, and I just use the honey alone again.

I have been doing this since last summer, so probably about 10 months now. And my skin has never been better. I rarely break out now, only when I am really stressed from school. And when I do break out, its usually only a small pimple, and I'll just put some honey on it directly and leave it on overnight. It has also helped me fade some of my acne scarring, although its not like I have a lot of scarring. Just two scars on my one cheek that wouldn't go away. Other than that, my face has been pretty much completely clear. And I no longer have any dry patches or any dry skin issues either! But these might have to do with my change in moisturizer as well, since I pretty much introduced both at around the same time.

I'm Back! Sort of...

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Hi everyone!

I know, I haven't posted anything in a really long time... But I am really hoping to start blogging again. There's just been so much going on in my life the past few years and I just got so busy with school that I had to put everything else aside. Including some of the things that I used to have so much interest in. I'm still in school right now, but I just realized how important it is to still do the things that I like to do, and to give myself some personal time, no matter how busy I really am. I admit, I was kind of in a rut the past little while and started to let myself go... But recently I've been trying to focus more on my health and beauty, trying out new things, working on being more active, basically, just balancing my lifestyle a little more.

So to start off, here's my plan for some of my upcoming posts:
- Skincare routine
- Current favourites
- Heatless hair styling tools (What works and what doesn't)
- DIY hair treatments
- DIY skincare
- Various product reviews

Why You Should Include Olive Oil in Your Skin Regimen

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

Olive oil is probably something we all have in our pantry. This versatile oil can be used for a lot of things like baking, cooking, and even in making our signature salad dressings. When you are on a strict diet yet you still crave for something, a drizzle of olive oil on salads and wheat breads is the way to go. But did you know that you can also use olive oil as a makeup remover? A lot of people have stood witness to this, and a lot (if not all) of beauty gurus on YouTube have testified to the benefits it can give our skin.

Why Himalayan Sea Salt is Good for the Body

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

Our skin is the largest organ in our body. It has the ability to reflect how healthy you are, so if your skin is not as clear as it should be, consider the possibility that there is something wrong going on inside of you. Acne is one of the most obvious skin conditions anyone can get. If you are looking for treatment that is organic in nature, you may want to consider Himalayan sea salt. Using Himalayan sea salt for acneisa cheaper alternative treatment that you should consider. The Himalayan sea salt originally came from Pakistan, and it is considered to be the most widely-available kind of rock salt in the market today. However, bear in mind that it is advisable to use sea salt, and not table salt, because the latter has already undergone a lot of processes in a laboratory before it is even packaged; thus, losing the full benefits of the salt. Using Himalayan sea salt for acne is not that complicated. Listed here are the simple steps in achieving that perfect face you’ve always dreamt of.

21 Day Fix Review

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

In my last post, I promised I would update about my 21 Day Fix journey. So why haven't I? Simple. I HATED 21 Day Fix. So much so, in fact, that I didn't even get past week 1.

Let me explain: I LOVED the workouts, and I still do them every single day. But that meal plan, the one that's supposed to reduce your cravings, just didn't work for me. I work from 9am to 5pm, so I don't have time to make a fresh meal for lunch every day. And after working 8+ hours AND working out, the last thing I wanted to do was make a fresh and healthy dinner. I know what you're thinking, "why not drink Shakeology?" Well, I've found that Shakeology is one of the few things that can keep me full in the morning, so I typically drink it for breakfast.

21 Day Fix left me feeling tired and irritable, and I had a headache that lasted all day. And although they say it's supposed to reduce your cravings for sweets, all I did was crave sweets the entire time. Because of this, I found myself cheating by the end of the first week.

Even after a failed week 1, I decided to "start over" and try again on week 2. But by Thursday of week 2, I was craving sweets, tired, irritable and hungry all the time. And the headaches were even worse than during week 1. I was having trouble concentrating at work, and I felt completely unproductive and useless.

So by the end of week 2, I decided that the 21 Day Fix just wasn't working for me. Because of all the cheating, I actually gained weight instead of losing it. This week, on what would've been week 3, I'm using My Fitness Pal to track what I'm eating, and I'm continuing to work out. I'm still doing the 21 Day Fix workouts, and I'm absolutely in love with them. Since Tough Mudder is a little over 2 weeks away, I'm running and doing a 21 Day Fix workout. So far, so good. In 3 days, I lost the weight that I gained when I attempted 21 Day Fix. My headaches are gone, I'm no longer tired and since I can have sweets, I'm eating them in moderation instead of binging.

21 Day Fix wasn't for me, but that doesn't mean other people haven't seen results. I've personally known several people who had awesome results with 21 Day Fix (largely because they were able to actually stick to the plan). I'm glad I gave it a shot, but in the end, it just didn't work out.

Why Do People Get Acne?

by Advanced Acne Treatment @ Advanced Acne Treatment

It is very easy to understand why we get acne; this skin condition happens when a skin pore is plugged with excess oil, dirt and dead skin. This mixture is the perfect place where bacteria may breed and grow which eventually, leads to acne. But how does dirt get to the skin pore enough to cause acne and pimples to form? Here are some conditions when acne will likely form: 1. Unnecessary touching of the skin on your face. The skin on the face is very prone to developing acne since it is often oilier than other areas of the

Is It Safe to Use Hydrogen Peroxide for Acne?

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

There are some easy-to-find household materials that can be used to counter acne. If you are looking for inexpensive ways to clear your skin, using hydrogen peroxide for acne is one option you can try at home. Easily found in most drugstores, hydrogen peroxide is used for cleaning minor wounds and it can also be used to counter your acne problems. Hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria and lifts them away from the skin by bubbling up. When applied on areas affected by acne, it helps decompose the pimples and makes it go away by killing the bacteria. Another effect that hydrogen peroxide has is that it helps dry out the skin and reduce overall oil production. By doing so, it works as a good preventative solution for controlling breakouts.

CherryCulture.com Haul

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

I recently made a purchase on cherryculture.com on a bunch of NYX eyeshadow palettes and some eyeshadow pencils, along with a Milani concealer.

I was starting to get really worried about the shipping, because I'm leaving in a week, and it had been about 3 weeks already and I still didn't get my package. I was looking up how long it takes for Cherry Culture to ship things, and saw all these complaints about how it took 2 months for them to receive their packages, so I almost freaked out when I saw all these people complaining about that.

Well, I did get my package today, and I'm somewhat satisfied, since nothing was done incorrectly, and nothing was damaged and whatnot.

I did say that I'm never buying from them again though. Why? Because they took about two weeks after I placed my order, just to electronically submit my order through USPS. And then on top of that, it took another three weeks for the shipping. So I was really unsatisfied with the shipping time. Also a few days after I had placed my order, but before it was shipped, I emailed them and asked them if I could cancel my order, because I knew I was going to be leaving soon, but I wasn't sure how soon so I didn't want it to arrive at this address after I was gone, but I didn't want it to arrive at my other address before I arrived either, so I didn't bother to ask for them to change my address, I just wanted it cancelled so I could place the order after I had my dates set. They said "once an order is placed we are unable to modify or cancel a pending order". So I was really pissed off. Like seriously. What makes me even more mad, is that I had to pay for the shipping. And it took them so long just to dispatch it.

But anyways, I really do love the products.

I'm not going to do a full review on the NYX shadows, because there's so many reviews out there on them already. And I'm not going to do swatches, because I got so many colours, I'm too lazy to swatch them all.

I will do a review on the Milani concealer once I've tried it out for a few days.

As for the Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils, I only intend to use them as a shadow base, or the lighter colours as a highlighter, but I will review them as well once I've tried them out.

Regret (verb): To think of with a sense of loss

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

I never used to believe in regrets.  I always believed that something good could come out of something bad.  I truly believed you should never regret anything because it can only make you stronger.

But recently, I've had a change of heart.  Going to grad school at Alabama...that's my biggest regret.

Sure, I got to experience a beautiful campus, amazing campus life, and a campus full of history and tradition.  But at what cost?  I risked so much coming here, and although I didn't lose it all, I lost something I fought so hard for for so many years - my happiness.

When I left Florida, I was in a fairly new relationship.  We had only been dating for six months when I moved.  Things were great.  I was in love for the first time in my life, and I felt like I had found the one I was meant to be with for the rest of my life.  Now, 10 months later, we're still together, and I'm so grateful for that because I know he didn't have to stay with me.  But honestly, our relationship is tough.  In a long distance relationship, you rely solely on verbal communication.  And at times, it puts a lot of strain on the relationship.  You fight more often, you run out of things to talk about, and you begin to feel distant.  I've grown so jealous and insecure in this relationship, and I've never been that kind of person before.  It's put unnecessary strain on our relationship, and it's certainly caused a lot of fights. This past year has gotten the best of us, and I almost feel like my relationship is a daily battle.  Some days, I wonder if we're going to make it.

I've struggled with my happiness from the moment I left Fort Myers.  The first few days I was in Alabama I cried every moment I was awake.  It was torture.  Over time I cried a little less, but every now and then, I break down.  I still hurt every day because I feel like I left something something great for something terrible.  I took a gamble, and it backfired.  Each day it hurts to be here, and it's a battle to get up in the morning and work hard.

I'm 68 days away from graduating, and it seriously cannot come soon enough.  I believe in living in the present and enjoying each moment, but right now, I wouldn't mind time speeding up a little.  I'm ready to have my master's degree and move back to Florida.

I don't regret much.  In fact, I can only think of one or two things that I regret.  Every hardship I've experience, every heartache, and every low point in my life has only made me stronger.  Maybe six months from now I'll have that same outlook on this experience.  But right now, I regret coming here.

I'm ready for the worst year of my life to be over.  I'm ready to take the "long distance" out of my relationship.  But mostly, I'm ready to be happy again.  I'm ready to smile and laugh and enjoy life...and really mean it.

L'Oreal Sublime Mousse (#60 Pure Light Brown)

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Okayyy, I finally decided to try out the L'Oreal Sublime Mousse just because it seems so easy to use!

So I just applied the mousse to my hair. I can't stop thinking about how easy it was to apply! In some reviews that I previously saw, people were saying that their mousse wasn't foamy or lathering once they put it in their hair, but when I put it in mine, it lathered just like shampoo! It made it so easy to make sure that every strand of my hair was covered. And the mixture didn't smell all that bad. Or maybe I've just gotten used to the smell of hair dye now. So far, this product has earned a major thumbs up for how easy it is to apply to the hair. It didn't drip at all, no mess at all! I didn't even get any on my skin! And it didn't take nearly as much time as it usually does for me to put it into my hair either. So far from what I can see and feel though, it seems like it is making my hair darker... almost black! But we'll see. Maybe that's just the way it appears at first? And I can already tell, my hair is going to be so dried out from this...

Now I'm just waiting for it to develop, and I'll come back after washing it out with the results!

I just washed my hair, and I have to say, while I was rinsing the dye out, my hair didn't feel all that bad. It actually felt quite smooth, tangle-free and didn't feel dried out at all. But then I applied the conditioner that it came with, and instantly, my hair felt like a mass of tangles and it felt sticky and I literally could not run my fingers through it at all! So I rinsed it out right away. But my hair still felt like that. I put my own deep conditioner on and it felt a little better, but it was still sticky and difficult to run my fingers through. I let it sit in my hair for about 5 minutes and then rinsed it out, and all I could smell was the conditioner that it came with. It smelled horrible! I can still smell it now. I feel like I smell like a man that just went to the gym or something... And my hair still feels dried out. I've put some Moroccan oil in my hair and now it is still damp. I dare not blow dry it today after putting my hair through the colour removal and the dye in the past two days. From what I can see with the colour on my damp hair though, it actually looks darker. It looks like the colour I started with before removing the black dye from my hair. But the lighter streak in the back of my head seems to be evened out. I wonder why I put my hair through so much though, if it would just end up with the same colour. Not even close to the colour on the box! Hopefully it will fade out into a lighter shade...

The next day:
After shampooing and conditioning my hair today, it felt a lot better. Almost like normal! But, my hair still has that terrible scent! I checked out the back again today, and looking at it under proper lighting now, I can see that the colour was not evened out at all. I still have that lighter band running across, though its not that apparent. I was just thinking, if it couldn't cover that... would it be able to actually cover greys? I personally don't have any grey hair, but I sort of doubt that this hair dye would cover grey very well. Also, my hair is still dark. It's actually almost exactly the same as my natural hair colour.

I would only recommend this hair dye to those who have healthy, virgin hair without very much grey and are dying their hair the first time. Also I don't think this dye can lighten hair at all. Not even one or two shades, so if you have dark hair and you want to lighten it just a teeny bit, it's not happening. My hair wasn't even that dark and I chose a lighter shade and it darkened my hair even more! So I'd probably say use this only if you are planning to go dark brown or black.

And now as for my hair, I am not happy with it. I mean, I'm not saying it's ruined or anything, but it just wasn't what I wanted, so I'm going to be trying something completely different with it over the summer and see if I can gradually lighten it in a different way instead. And of course, if it works, I'll share it. (:

Skin 79 Super Plus Blemish Balm Triple Functions

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

I just realized that I said I'd do a review on this almost 2 months ago and never did. So here it is. Well its not really a review since I only used it once, and I don't have it on hand so I'm just saying what I remember about it.

The colour at the time was too dark for my skin (of course now since I'm so tanned it would probably work, but I left it at home so I can't really try it again). So that's why I haven't used it any more than just once. It also seemed to have that greyish undertone(and maybe pinkish?) in it which I hated. I remember that it had quite a good coverage, I think it was a little too heavy for me though. I also didn't quite like the scent.

I kept hearing such great things about this BB cream though, I was kind of disappointed when I finally got to try it. So no, this isn't something I'd actually recommend, but just because so many other people recommend it, maybe it's just me. I'll probably try it out again next time I go home.

My current (mostly natural) skincare routine

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Since last summer, I've been gradually phasing out most of the products I had previously been using on my face with all the harsh chemicals in them, and replacing them with gentler and more natural products. I have dry, acne prone skin, which had always made it difficult for me to find the right stuff to use on my face. Either I would find something that helped with the acne, but made my face drier, or I would find something that would help with the dryness, but either made me break out more, or didn't help my already existing acne. And on top of that, being in my mid-20's now, I am becoming more concerned about aging, especially with all the stress that I go through in school, including all nighters at least once a week, it has really taken a toll on my skin and overall appearance. I also find that in the past few years, whenever I do break out, I tend to scar, and the scars don't heal like they used to. So in my search for a better skincare routine more suitable for my skin, I turned towards the natural route.

Here is a list of all the products that I currently use on my face:
- Wedderspoon Premium Raw Manuka Active 16+ Honey
- Tarte Maracuja Oil
- Fushi Organic Jojoba Oil
- Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel Toner
- Ombrelle SPF 60 Face Ultra-Fluid Lotion
- Delon+ Premium Cotton Rounds
- Shu Uemura Anti-Oxy Skin Refining Cleansing Oil (Green)
- Rice flour
- Oatmeal
- Clarisonic
(I will probably do separate, more in depth posts about most of these later.)

Starting off in the morning...
I don't really wash my face with anything in the morning - just splash it with water - while I'm in the shower. After I get out of the shower, I apply Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel Toner with a cotton pad. I like to use the Delon ones because of the mesh layer for a little bit of exfoliation. Also I just happened to have picked a huge package of them from Costco, so I've been using them forever and still haven't run out. After the toner, I apply a mix of Tarte's Maracuja Oil, and Fushi's Jojoba Oil. I'm not going to go into too much detail about these oils right now, but I will try to do another post later about them. I have a separate eyedropper bottle that I premix the oils in, and I'll just put 2-3 drops on my fingers, rub them together and then massage onto my face. After that I'll put my sunscreen on, and makeup if I'm wearing any, and that's it for the morning!

Night time is when everything gets a little more fun! But also, takes a lot more time.
If I wore makeup that day, I'll start by taking all my makeup off using Shu Uemura's Anti-Oxy Skin Refining Cleansing Oil. I just put a pump of it in my hands and rub them together then gently rub it all over my face and eyes to take everything off. Then I'll rinse all of that off and dry my face. I keep a jar of a mixture of ground oatmeal and rice flour in the bathroom, and a small jar of manuka honey that I portion out of the original container so it doesn't get contaminated. I'll then put about half a tablespoon of the ground oatmeal/rice flour mixture, and a teaspoon of manuka honey in a little dish (I don't actually measure any of this, I just do it by eye...), add some water and mix until it's at my preferred consistency, and apply onto my face using a foundation brush. Or just my fingers. I'll also talk about this more in another post later. And then I let it sit on my face while I floss and brush my teeth, and make my breakfast for the next day (Refrigerator oatmeal!) After that, I rinse it all off, pat my face dry, apply toner and oil to moisturize. Once a week, I will also use my Clarisonic, I don't use it with anything really, just water. Just to exfoliate. And that's it!

Review: Konjacu Sponge (Charcoal/Body)

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

So I have been using these sponges for about a week now, so I am finally ready to review them.

They come in a little cellophane package, along with a small piece of paper that contains a description and instructions on how to use it. Nothing too fancy.

When completely dry, the diameter is about the length of my middle finger. When soaked, it only expands about 1-2 cm more. One side is flat, and the other side is round. When it is completely dry, it is really hard like a rock... like pumice, and it takes a bit of time to soften it in warm water. But once it is softened and wet, it takes a long time to completely harden up again, so if you're using it twice a day like I do, or even just once a day, it will never get the chance to harden up completely.

In the description, it says that "it has a very soft texture like butter". I would have to say that this isn't true. Well it could be, if it didn't have little air pockets in it and it was completely smooth, but then it wouldn't be exfoliating. It is nice and soft, but I wouldn't say its like butter. It is a very nice and gentle exfoliant, which works great on my skin. I no longer have any dry flakes of skin at all, and my skin feels very smooth after using it.

It's supposed to be deep cleansing, remove blackheads, dirt and oil, and kill acne-causing bacteria. I'm not too sure about this though, because I have had a few blackheads start to pop up on my nose about a month before I started using this, and they're still there, I haven't really noticed them diminishing or anything. Also I've still been using my SkinID cleanser along with the sponge, so I don't know if it really kills acne-causing bacteria or not.

Also one thing I really don't understand is how it claims to naturally balance the pH of your skin. I just don't understand how that works, but I'm tempted to somehow test the pH....

In the instructions, it says specifically how to clean it, and says "Do not twist or squeeze too hard, it may damage the sponge." And also, "Discard once sponge starts falling apart." This makes me so conscious about when I am using it, I'm so scared that I'm going to squeeze too hard and it's going to start falling apart. And it actually makes sense, because there's so many little holes in it, and it feels kind of fragile to me.

Also, "Try keeping the sponge in a container/bag and in the refrigerator. It lengthens the usage life of sponge while keeping it extra fresh, clean & mold-free." So apparently these things will mold.... The thought of using something moldy on my skin isn't very appealing. But it says to "Store or hang the sponge in a cool & ventilated area to air dry." So how would that work? I can't hang it up to air dry and have it in a container or bag in the refrigerator at the same time, and it won't work to let it dry first then put it in the refrigerator since it literally takes forever to dry. So that doesn't really make sense to me.

So now onto the difference with the bamboo charcoal sponge, and the moisturizing body wash sponge. They're practically the same to me, except ones white and one's black, and ones round and the other is rectangular. Maybe the white one feels a little bit smoother and has smaller air bubbles in it? Even though the black one is supposed to be for oily skin, and the white one is supposed to be moisturizing, I really haven't noticed any difference in them.

Overall, I do like using this product. It is much better than using towels. And I do like using it more than the silicon scrubbers I had been using prior to this, so it is probably something that I will stick to using, until I can afford to try one of those Clarisonic Skincare Brushes.

Gone Too Soon

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

It’s been three years since you left this world far too soon, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about you.  I try to make you proud in everything I do, and I know you’d be so happy to see how far I’ve come.  Every time I go on a date with Alex, I think about how much you would have loved him.  I think about the jokes you two could have made at my expense and how you would have loved him being part of our family.  I think about how happy you would’ve been on Alyssa’s wedding day and how thrilled you would’ve been to find out you were going to have a great-granddaughter.  We all know how much you wanted to be around long enough to have a great-grandchild, and it’s so bittersweet that you won’t be here to watch Alyssa have her little girl.  I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Baby Marley is due in August; I think it’s a reminder that you’re watching over us.

I miss you, Grandma…I really do.  I know I used to make jokes, but I swear that I loved you (but I think you always knew that).  I’ll never forget the trips we took and how you always made it a point to spoil us.  You made my first 20 years on this Earth unforgettable…and I hope that Alyssa and I made your last 20 years unforgettable too.

I know you’re always with me in whatever I do and wherever I go, and I know you’d be so proud of the woman I am today.  I love you and miss you, and I wish I could have just one more day with you.

Rest in Paradise, Grandma.  I love you.

Konjacu Sponge Update

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Well, I finally got the sponges in the mail today, and like a little kid with a new toy, I couldn't help but to open the package right away and play with it and try it out.

I got four charcoal ones, and one of the body wash ones. I don't even know why I had to get so many at once if I was just testing them out.... They do have a buy three get two free promotion though, and shipping is free. Well I'm not sure if its a promotion or if its permanent...

But anyway, when they are dry, they are hard and feel like pumice. Especially for the black ones, they even look like pumice. They do soften up and feel very spongy once they're wet though. But they don't feel like normal sponges. It's kind of hard to describe how they feel....

When I first opened the package and saw them, I was kind of disappointed in how small they are. Well, the face sponges looked to be an okay size, but the body one was exactly the same size, except in a rectangular shape instead of round. So I really don't know what the difference is with it being for body or face. But I really did expect the body sponge to be bigger. Once wet though, they do expand a little... not quite twice the size, but almost there. And it soaks up SO much water.

I only tried it once so far since I just got the mail about 20 minutes ago and excitedly thought I should do an update on it. I just wet the sponge, and used it on my entire face in a circular motion. I didn't use any cleanser or anything with it. Just water. I did have BB cream on my face from earlier, but no other makeup. It did clean off all of the BB cream, and it even kind of lathered a bit... I don't know if that's the BB cream or what though. After I just dried my skin with a towel, and my skin felt SO soft and it didn't feel dry or tight afterwards like it usually does after I wash my face.

I'm going to continue using this and update about it again in a few weeks or so about how it's working, and about the body sponge as well.

What I Wore: Party Pants

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

This season I’m really feeling the look of a fitted top with a high waist full or flared pant or skirt.  I’m short waisted so I have avoided high waisted pants in the past… but now that I’m over 40 I care less about traditional figure flattery and more about having a great time getting dressed.  And by changing this mindset, not only do I enjoy getting dressed more, I’m finding my looks are garnering more compliments.  Don’t get me wrong, I still love to make myself look longer and leaner with fashion, but sometimes it’s fun to buck the rules and just have fun. Tee: Etsy | Pants: c/o JD Williams | Shoes: Naturalizer | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban | Earrings: eBay (similar) | Lipstick: L’Oreal in ‘Eva’s Red’ So when I saw these pants at JD Williams I had to try them.  I was envisioning them with my ELOQUII bell sleeve wrap top and black funky ankle boots and statement earrings.  I didn’t know how JD Williams fit (these pants came at the same time as the clothes in this outfit post), so I asked for a 14 and 16.  The 14 was out of stock at the time so […]

What to Wear to a Winter Evening Wedding

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

Love your blog and always turn to it when looking for advice. I’m a young 48, 14/16, busty, and fun woman who is STRIKING OUT looking for a cocktail/wedding guest dress for this fall. I’m attending a wedding in early November. Saturday evening, cocktail attire. I want to wear something fun, fancy, and flattering. Tired, so tired, of lace sheath dresses. Went shopping and all I found were – you guess it – lace sheath dresses or matronly chiffon dresses with poncho-like sheer overlays. I don’t understand why retailers, especially department stores, think women of a certain age or size want to dress like grandmothers. Even the grandmothers I know don’t want to dress like that! Luckily, many online retailers have bigger selections and a better outlook on the women of America and I found some fun, fancy, and flattering winter evening cocktail dresses that would be great for an evening wedding and even for dressy events coming up for the holidays. ELOQUII ELOQUII starts at size 14; I’m a 14/16 and find their 14s work for me about half the time. The other half, they would if I were a few inches taller. While their marketing may make you […]

Get me out. I'm stuck.

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

It’s been awhile since I’ve felt this way.  For anyone that’s read my blog, you know that I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety as well as struggled with self-injury (cutting) and suicidal thoughts.  Although all of that’s “behind me” (it’s never really behind you), lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m back in that place of pain, sadness and helplessness.
Don’t get me wrong – I am NOT saying I’m depressed or that I want to hurt myself. But I’ve been thinking about it all a lot lately, and if I think about it long enough, I feel like I’m back in middle school and high school.  I feel like I’m back in the place where I was being bullied and tormented because I was different.  The place where I took an x-acto knife to my wrist and made small, shallow cuts from my wrist to my elbow.  The place where I just wanted to end my life because I didn’t see the point of living.
And then, the feelings fade.
I’m not really sure how to explain it.  And I don’t know why it’s happening.  Recently, I came to the realization that I’m not happy with my job.  I don’t know if it’s that I don’t like what I do or that I don’t like where I work.  But when I go to work, I’m miserable.  When I come home, I’m happy.  It’s almost like I live two different lives.
All of this has made me think about other times in my life when I’ve been unhappy, and the first thing that comes to mind are all of those things I listed above.  I think to myself, “how did I get over it back then?  At what point did I say ‘something needs to change,’ and at what point did I change it?”  THAT is when I go back to that place.  THAT is when I remember all of the pain I’ve been through.  But THAT is also when I remember that I can get through it, and I will figure this out.
I’m stuck in a rut, and right now I’m having a really hard time getting out.  Given my past, I know it’s going to take time.  But in the meantime, I need to find a way to cope.  Because I can’t go to work and be snippy and bitchy with my boss and coworkers.  It’s not fair to them.  And it certainly isn’t going to help my career.
I wish I could snap my fingers, figure out what I want and make it happen.  But I can’t. What I can do is figure out what’s making me unhappy and then fix it.  It won’t be easy, and it may involve me making some hard decisions.  But I owe it to myself to be happy.  I deserve it.  I know I do.

With This Ring…

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

When I got engaged, I was 27 and a size 12. Karl bought me a ring in a size 8 which fit perfectly in November 2002 when he proposed, but was a bit snug in the warmer months when hands swell. When I got engaged, I went on a diet. Actually, I went on a few different diets, finally settling on the South Beach Diet. By time I was having my wedding dress altered, I was a size 10. This was the time when we also bought my wedding band, also a size 8. I got married in June of 2004. By August, wearing both rings was uncomfortable. By December, I was down to just wearing my engagement ring, only putting on the wedding band for social situations. When I got pregnant, the engagement ring no longer fit. I would try to squeeze it on occasionally, but couldn’t wear for long before it got uncomfortable. I shared on the blog when thanks to Weight Watchers I was able to fit my ring again. But that didn’t last. I stopped Weight Watchers when I saw myself adopting bad habits to stay within my points. I haven’t been able to wear any […]

Product Review: L'Oreal Paris Go 360° Clean (Deep Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin)

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Immediately after first seeing ads all over the place for this cleanser, I have had the urge to purchase it and test it out. Because I already knew about these silicone scrubbers, tried them and loved them, and they finally made their way to Canada. I read and watched some reviews on them, and found out that a majority of people found the cleansers to be drying. So I kept that in mind when purchasing and went with the one for sensitive skin, which is a white, creamy cleanser. I have actually been using this for about a month now, because I idiotically left my Neutrogena Skin ID cleanser back at home. So here's my thoughts.

I love the scrubber. It is better quality than the crappy ones I ordered online from Ebay a while back, before these. The "bristles" are really soft and it just feels really cool. There's also a little suction thing on the back so you can stick it to the shower walls. I noticed that Sephora now sells these as well, for $5 and it's exactly the same thing. So if you're just in for the scrubber, I'd say just get that.

Now the cleanser, has a very light scent. It hasn't dried out my skin or anything, but maybe that's just because its summer and my skin tends to be more oily in the summer. It feels like a very gentle cleanser though, and it doesn't lather up much. I don't feel like it's doing much for my skin though. It isn't something I would recommend. It's not bad, but its not great either. I've only been using it for so long because I'm waiting for my next Skin ID order to come in.

See you later, 23!

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

On Monday (December 16th), I turned 24.  That's right...24.

I can't believe it's been a year since I celebrated my 23rd birthday.  So much has happened this year that I don't think I'd be able to capture it all in a single blog post (good thing for all those other posts).  But, I'm going to try and list out some of my favorites:

1. Watching my sister get married and being her maid of honor.

2. Watching Alabama win the BCS National Championship.

3. Snow day in Tuscaloosa!

4. Celebrating my one year anniversary with Alex by going on a cruise to the Bahamas.

5. Watching Dunk City come to life during the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

6. Being in the ultrasound room when my sister found out she was having a girl.

7. Going to my first craft brewery.  I've been a craft beer lover ever since!

8. Seeing Lee Brice, Chris Young and Brad Paisley in Tuscaloosa.

9. Graduating with my master's degree and being back with my boyfriend.

10. Marley Shai Johnson.  In September, my sister gave birth to her first child, Marley Shai (she also happens to be my first niece).  She has brought so much joy to my life in such a short period of time, and I miss being able to see her all the time.

11. Landing my first job.  It's been nearly a month since I started working with ITVantage, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity I was given.

12. Painting and re-organizing the condo and making it "ours."  It feels nice to come home from work every day and feel at home.

13. Experiencing seasons while living in Tuscaloosa.  You don't get that in Southwest Florida.

Twenty-three was a great year, but I can't wait to see what the next year of my life will hold.  If it's anything like the past, it will be filled with ups and downs...but I wouldn't want things any other way.

RIP Robin Williams

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

don't often write about the death of a celebrity. In fact, I don't think I ever have. But tonight, my heart is heavy with the death of Robin Williams.

Depression is a very real and dark struggle. My heart aches for his family. I can't imagine the pain his family must be going through. I think about all of the unanswered questions they have and the memories that will never happen.

I think about the millions of lives that Robin Williams impacted and the joy he brought to so many people. He made people laugh and smile in ways that most people can't. Although I can't say this for sure, I can only imagine that he saved so many lives.

I don't believe that suicide is selfish. It must be one of the hardest decisions that anyone could ever make. And it breaks my heart that someone felt like their pain was too much to handle. They say that the people who bring great joy also know great pain.  For Robin Williams, this must've been true.  The world lost a talented, hilarious soul today. The world is grieving. Our hearts are heavy.

Robin Williams' death is a reminder that people need people. No matter what you're going through, you are not alone.

If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255. There's someone on the other line waiting to help. You are worth it.

What Niacin Can Do for Acne

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

Niacin is another name for Vitamin B3, more formally known as nicotinic acid. It has a number of different uses, usually taken by people suffering from the pain and stiffness brought about by arthritis. It also proves to be very effective in maintaining good cholesterol levels and helps those who have cardiovascular problems. But what could be one of the most popular uses of niacin is for skin care. Using niacin for acne treatment has become a very common practice because of the efficiency at which it does its job. Niacin helps your skin get rid of your lingering acne problems and is very effective in maintaining beautiful skin. One of niacin’s many properties is its ability to boost the amount of hydration on your skin. This automatically covers a lot in taking care of your skin considering the huge importance of skin hydration. Proper skin hydration allows your skin to release unwanted toxins more efficiently, reducing the factors that contribute to acne growth and the occurrence of other skin conditions. It helps balance your skin’s pH levels as well, something that is very important in keeping acne at bay. Having low pH levels makes your skin too dry, while having high pH levels makes your skin too acidic. Either way, acne breakouts will be almost automatic. Proper hydration also keeps the skin soft, firm and elastic, keeping it young and smooth longer. Dehydration would cause the skin to wrinkle up, inviting in the problems that come with premature aging.

Collective Haul

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

I got all these things in the past week and thought I would share them with you guys, along with a little review on them. I don't have pictures though, just because I'm too lazy to take pictures, but I will take some pictures and do swatches of some of the stuff later.

First I want to talk about mineral makeup. I'm officially over BB creams, and moved on to mineral makeup now. I started off with trying out the bareMinerals Matte SPF 15 Foundation in golden medium. I actually meant to get the golden light shade, but I somehow picked up the wrong one, but it's not too much darker than my skin tone, especially since it's summer and I will tan a bit. I also got the bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil. The foundation is very lightweight and has very light coverage, which is fine with me because I don't really need that much coverage. When I want more coverage, I just go back to my BB creams, and then buff this on top of it. Then I conceal, and use the Mineral Veil. The foundation does keep my t-zone area nice and matte all day, which was the main reason why I ended up choosing the matte finish one. The Mineral Veil is slightly shimmery, but goes on unnoticeable. It sets all my makeup very well. I'm not sure if it really is hydrating though. I have also just placed an order on Signature Minerals mineral makeup, as well as Everyday Minerals mineral makeup because of how much I love using mineral makeup now. I also have this Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl that I picked up at the drugstore. It comes with a bottom compartment which has a brush in there, although I never use that brush, because I just don't like the feel of it. The palette looks mainly pink, but it has parts that are darker and more brown and parts that are lighter pink. I like using this as a highlighter on my cheekbones and nose. It is really shimmery, but gives a really subtle highlight... It doesn't really make sense, but I like it, except its probably not the best highlighter out there.

Speaking of highlighters, I finally got the Benefit High Beam to try out, and I have to say, this probably is my favourite highlighter I've ever had. I just love the way it looks on my skin!

I also finally got the NARS Orgasm blush that everybody raves about. I had the cream blush before, but that never really worked for me. I just don't really like cream blushes, but I got it that time because Sephora was out of the pressed blush. I absolutely love the colour of this blush. And as with all NARS blushes, they are highly pigmented and last all day. I love them!

Moving on, I got this Palgantong Make-Up Theatrical Powder in Clear White. Apparently a lot of celebrities use it, which is why I got it.... I don't know though, I haven't used it much, except to set my makeup sometimes, but I feel like it doesn't really do anything, and it definitely doesn't work nearly as well as bareMinerals mineral veil or Mac mineralize skin finish, so I can't say much about it. The powder is white, but it goes on completely clear. And it is very fine and smooth.

While I was at the drug store, I also picked up two cheapo lip balm/gloss things. I don't know what I'd call them. From Nivea. One of them is Nivea Fruity Shine in Strawberry, and the other is Nivea Glamorous Gloss in Natural. The Fruity Shine smells amazing! But I don't like the colour. It's a shame that they don't show the colour on the packaging or anything... I was expecting a little hint of red that would look like I just sucked on a popsicle or something. Well I guess it could be a really red popsicle... I don't like the colour on me though, because it's much too dark and red/pink, so I've only used it like, once. It does go on really smooth and it isn't sticky at all though which I like. I am considering giving it to my mom since she likes redder lipsticks, but she's also too lazy to wear lipstick usually, so this would probably suit her better. The Glamorous Gloss again, didn't show anywhere on the packaging what it would look like. The tube is a really light pink and I love the colour, and I just assumed that the gloss would be coloured similar to the tube. But, the gloss is more like a very, very pale peach, and very close to being just a clear gloss. I like the smell of it, and it isn't sticky at all, but I think it does make my lips kind of dry, so I haven't been using that much either.

Now for Milani's HD Advanced Concealer that I mentioned last time. I got this in the lighter shade, which is perfect for under my eyes. It works like a click pen, with a clicking thing at the end. I don't like how the clicker works though because it usually takes quite a few clicks before anything starts coming out, so I get impatient and madly click and then end up getting too much product. The formula itself is very lightweight and coverage is kind of on the light side, but it somehow still covers up my undereye circles pretty well and brightens them. It isn't good enough to cover up blemishes though. It lasts most of the day, but not all day. By the end of the day, the inner corners of my eyes, which are the darkest areas, would look so dark and horrid.

On to the NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils, I got 6 of them, in Iced Mocha, Pure Gold, Cottage Cheese, Black Bean, Pots & Pans, and Purple. These are super pigmented and glide on really easily and are sooooo smooth and easy to blend. The only problem I have with them is that they smudge. And crease. But that happens with most cream eyeshadows. I have tried using these as a makeup base, and overall they work okay as a base. They certainly do make colours adhere and pop more and last longer but I still have a little bit of problem with the creasing, but that can be easily fixed with just a smudge with the finger. Also worth mentioning, is that these are cruelty free.

And since I'm talking about cruelty free, I just got this eyeliner from Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils, in Bourbon. I actually had one before, but I used up the whole thing! I am in love with Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliners. They go on so easily and smooth, and they look amazing, and last all day. This is actually the first time I've ever used up an entire eyeliner pencil and had to buy another one of the exact same thing. I love them so much. I will do a more complete review on these pencils later along with the eyeliner reviews that I promised quite a while back. I just haven't gotten to it yet because of my laziness... Oh and what this had to do with cruelty free, is that all of Urban Decay's things are cruelty free, which makes it one of my favourite cosmetic brands.

I made my first purchase from Lush today, and got the Vanilla Dee-Lite Hand and Body Cream. I love how everything from Lush is hand-made, and they have a wide selection of vegan items too! This cream that I got is vegan, and it smells great. I normally HATE things with any tinge of coconut scent in them, but for some reason this has coconut in it, but I love the smell. And its not overpowering like many creams and lotions on the market are. It feels very moisturizing and it is non-greasy. I love it. I am really considering getting more things from Lush now.

I also made my first purchase at Bath and Body Works a few days ago. I know, its unbelievable that this is my first purchase from them. But I'm such a cheapo, I never wanted to spend $11 on a bottle of lotion, even though that's not even expensive. But I walked by the other day and saw that they had a huge 50% off sale, so I decided that it's about time. I HAD to get one. I spent so long in there trying to decide on a scent to go with, and finally chose the Sweet Pea one from the Signature Collection. I love the smell so much. It's kind of fruity and florally. It feels very moisturizing and absorbs quickly and it isn't greasy at all. I really do like it.

X-Men: First Class

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

I finally got the chance to see X-Men last night and it was AMAZING! Though I'm still sort of grudging over the fact that the guy I wanted to see it with didn't seem like he wanted to go so I went with a group of my friends instead. He didn't even say sorry. Actually, he never even told me straight up if he wanted to go or not. He just kept putting it off and making excuses, which is what I'm really mad about. So I haven't talked to him ever since. And he probably doesn't even realize it.

I know... I'll never be happy if I get mad and grudge over such small things. But he hasn't even tried to talk to me ever since either. I just feel like it was completely one-sided love, and he had absolutely no feelings for me. But every time I think that, I just wonder, why did he say some of the things that he did if he never meant it? I just feel like I was trying way too hard and that I was just embarrassing myself. It's the first time I've ever tried to open up to a guy, the first time that I tried to ask a guy out and not the other way around. It's also the first time that instead of me turning the guy down, I was being turned down. Except not even directly. Actually I don't even know, because he confuses the shit out of me. Maybe he didn't even mean to make me feel the way I do. Maybe he didn't mean to make me think that he's not interested. But I don't know... It's like, a part of me just won't allow myself to be happy.

I'm just scared. I'm scared of ending up with a broken heart again. And I just have this feeling that if I were to keep trying and if we were to be together, it won't last forever. He will break my heart. It would be a lot easier to just let go now. Even though I still keep thinking about him practically 24/7... And I know I'll regret later on in my life for giving up, for letting go, for not doing anything. But if I were to try and make things happen, and I end up with a broken heart, I would regret that just as much. So either way, my life is going to be full of regrets.

Or maybe it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. Maybe I should go for it, and just have an adventure.

I don't know...

Back to X-men, there was something that Raven/Mystique said that really got me thinking. It sort of inspired me, I guess. "How can society accept who you are, if you can't even accept yourself?"

I really liked the movie because I felt like I could really relate to it. Actually, I think a lot of people can relate. Everyone's always trying to be accepted by society. Okay well maybe not "everyone", but a lot of people. Including myself. I mean I'm not shunned away by society or anything, but I just always feel like I don't belong. And I'm always 'hiding'. Everyday before I can go anywhere, without feeling uncomfortable, I MUST take a shower, put on some nice clothes, wear makeup, do my hair, put on some perfume... I will never be seen in public without doing these first in the morning. It has gotten a little better over the past couple years. I don't wear eye makeup all the time, but face makeup is still a must. And everything else is still a must as well. Wow, I probably sound so fake right now... But I guess I just haven't come to accept who I am myself, that's why I need all these things, to make myself "better". And how can I expect anybody to love myself for who I am, if I can't even do it?

19 Must Know Skincare Tips for Women Over 30

by Monica @ Monica's Beauty

Remember the good old days? You know, when your “skin care regime” consisted of a half-hearted wash with a lightweight cleanser, and maybe, if you thought about it, and if it was handy, a thin coat of moisturizer (without SPF of course). Unfortunately, as your shelves fill with random products of varying effectiveness gathering dust,... [Read more]

Capsule Wardrobe: Fall Weekend Style

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

Many have written me asking for a casual weekend look for fall. More polish than jeans and a tee shirt, more refined than leggings and a tunic. This capsule wardrobe is for you – weekend style refined. This capsule wardrobe is all about layering, so it can work now in late summer when it’s a bit breezy, and continue until there’s frost in the morning. However, most of these pieces can work into winter. Switch out the ankle pants for full length, add a pair of velvet jeans, change out the loafers for a pair of lace-up boots, throw in a cashmere or merino turtleneck.   Shop the Capsule: wrap sweatshirt | denim jacket | scarf | booties | loafers | necklace | striped sweater | camo sweater | v-neck sweater | silkscreened tee | striped tee | bag | jeans | pants If this combination of prints and colors isn’t your thing… no worries! Switch out the mustard for hot pink, plum, or even a neutral. This is a piece that is really versatile, however if you go with a neutral like tan, grey, or black it’s even more important to have the prints within the capsule. Below is […]

Giving Back: What is DACA and Why Should I Care?

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

Unless you’re hiding under a rock, especially this past week, you’ve heard about DACA.  The news is reporting on it, your coworkers are discussing it, and it seems all your Facebook friends have opinions about it.  Earlier this summer, 10 state attorneys general wrote the President demanding the end of DACA.  The reason it’s been in the news this week is because the letter gave Trump an ultimatum of this past Tuesday, September 5th. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration will rescind the DACA program and the administration is giving Congress six months before it’s revoked. What is DACA?  Why is this such a big deal that your uncle, 11th grade English teacher, and dogsitter are sharing memes about it? I do not claim to be an expert regarding DACA, in fact I realized how little I knew when the news came out this week. Doing some research helped me understand it better; this post breaks down the basics about DACA and why we all need to be informed. What is DACA? DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It’s an immigration policy founded in 2012 by the Obama administration to allow certain illegal immigrants who entered the […]

How to remove hair colour using household products.

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Notes:

You want to make this right when you are going to use it. Do not make it beforehand. Make sure you have at least two hours to spare at home if you are doing this.

This isn't supposed to lighten your natural hair colour if that's what you're looking for. It may lighten it a little bit, but it's not what it's meant for. This is for removing hair dye colour. Also it works only on hair that has been dyed a darker shade, or hair that has been dyed some artificial colour. If you had dark hair and lightened it, your hair will not become dark again with this. You will want to dye your hair again with a darker colour to get your hair dark again! I know it sounds stupid... but some people just don't understand these things!

This may make your scalp itch. Try to bear it. If you can't bear it, wash it off.

You may have "vitamin water" dripping from your hair. Keep some paper towel by you while you're waiting.

I really wanted to take pictures of the whole procedure but I honestly forgot. Shame on me for my horrible memory! But really, this is so easy to do, I honestly don't think it can be messed up.

Ingredients:

Vitamin C tablets (I used Jamieson 500mg Delicious Chewable Formula with Antioxidant Support Grape flavoured, but really, whatever Vitamin C you have at home should work.)

Baking Soda

Shampoo (Clarifying shampoo works best, but if you don't have, use any. I used Quantum Clarifying Shampoo.)

Directions:

1. Take some Vitamin C tablets and crush it up. I crushed up about 20 tablets and ended up using only half of it, so for short-medium hair, I'd say 10 is a good amount. Judge according to the length of your hair. The tablets shouldn't be too hard to crush. I put them in a plastic bag and used the bottom of a small pot that I had to crush them. If you have a hammer, that works as well. After crushing them I put it in a little container and used the handle of a wooden spoon to crush the larger pieces so I would have a finer powder. The finer you can get it, the better.

2. Place the powder in a plastic bowl.

3. Add some baking soda. I don't know how much I used exactly, I just took the box and sprinkled some on top of the Vitamin C powder, but I'm guessing 1/2 tsp. is about right.

5. Make sure your hair is damp before going on to step 4.

4. Add shampoo. I just took the shampoo and covered the powder entirely. Supposedly, it should be a 1 Vitamin C: 2 Shampoo ratio, but I really don't think it matters. Just use however much you think you would need for your hair.

5. Mix it all up. As soon as you start mixing it, a chemical reaction will occur, causing the mixture to lather and foam up.

6. Apply it to your damp hair like you would with shampoo. Lather it up and make sure all the hair is covered.

7. Pile hair on top of head and place a shower cap or a plastic bag over it.

8. Let it sit for about an hour. Use a blow dryer to heat it up if you want.

9. Rinse, rinse, rinse. And shampoo. And condition. When I was rinsing it out, my hair felt like straw! As soon as I shampooed and conditioned it though, it felt normal again.

10. Try to let your hair air dry and not heat style it, but if you have to... like I did...

11. If it did not lift all the colour, or as much as you wanted to be lifted, wait a few days or a week, or as long as you can to let your hair recover, and repeat the process. It may or may not lift all the colour, depending on how recently you coloured it and how many times you have done so.

What I Wore: Tassels and Fringe

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

I saw dresses similar to these on Instagram, but they cost an insane amount of money and anyway they weren’t available in double-digit sizes.  I was scrolling through ELOQUII and there is a similar dress, much lower in price, and available in a broad range of sizes.  ELOQUII is constantly adding to their selection and they do such a good job at translating popular fashion trends in a way that is flattering, wearable, not cheap but not overpriced. dress | shoes | sunglasses | earrings This is not a dress for a wallflower.  The bold color, the fringe and tassels, the stiffer fabric… it’s a lot of dress.  It also garners a lot of comments and compliments. But this summer it has been a favorite.  Many Fridays like this one, I wear it when working from home.  While the fabric is stiffer, it breathes nicely, The dress has super deep pockets so I can throw everything in them to run to get a coffee or pick Emerson up from school.  I shared it on Instagram last week after getting an inced coffee from our neighborhood cafe. How Kukui Nut Oil Benefits Your Skin

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

The Aleurites moluccana, more commonly known as the Kukui nut tree, is a kind of plant that thrives in places with tropical weather such as Hawaii, the Pacific Islands, and some Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia and Indonesia. It was originally grown in Polynesia, but was brought to Hawaii by some seafarers. The word kukui means enlightened in the Hawaiian language; thus, making it the national tree of Hawaii. The tree can grow up to 30 feet high, with large, green leaves and small round kukui nuts. Its oil can be found moistly in its seed, and kukui nut oil can last for up to 14 months without direct exposure to heat.

Skin ID Update: Final Thoughts

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

So I have been using Skin ID for almost 3 weeks now, and I think I can place my final verdict on it now.

It was drying up my skin a lot last time I posted an update on it. Since then, I started going back to using my Kose moisturizer (I'll do a review on it later.... I keep putting it off for some reason...) after cleansing and before putting on all the other Skin ID products, and my skin hasn't felt dry at all anymore. Also for the anti-acne treatment, I've been only putting it on my forehead and nose. Everything else stayed the same. I continued using everything twice a day.

So did Skin ID actually help my acne?

YES! Almost ALL of my acne is gone now. All that's left are basically scars on my forehead. I've never seen my skin SO clear since I was about 13, so I'm really happy and excited about it. What surprises me even more, is that even my milia/whiteheads are gone. I don't have a single one on my face anymore.

So I definitely recommend trying Skin ID out. I know that everybody will get different results from the evaluation, and I can't say anything about the other products, if they work or not, but I think its worth trying, and most importantly, results don't always show up right away. Stick to the routine for a while longer. Only a week ago, I was starting to suspect that this was not only not working, but even breaking me out more, and drying out my skin at the same time. A week later, everything vanished.

Thanks For The Memories

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

Today marks my last day at T3 Communications/ITVantage.  I have mixed emotions about all of this.  If I could describe how I feel in one word, it would be “bittersweet.”

After graduating with my master’s degree, I spent months looking for a job, and eventually I was hired as the marketing coordinator for T3 and ITVantage.  The job came with a lot of difficulties and struggles, and at times I just wanted to quit.  There were days where I thought “I can’t take this anymore.”  But at the end of the day, it all made me a better marketing professional.

I was forced to step outside of my comfort zone to learn all about telecommunications and IT (two fields I knew nothing about).  I was tasked with projects that most entry-level coordinators would never see, like writing content for an entire website.  But I did it all.  I pushed myself to learn new skills and to implement those skills on the job.  I wasn’t perfect, and I certainly made my fair share of mistakes, but I never gave up.

I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given at T3 and ITVantage, and I’m so thankful that my boss took a chance when he hired me.  I can only hope that I didn’t let them down, and that my work mattered.  I want nothing more than to see them succeed (and to be ranked #1 on Google).

I’m excited for this next chapter of my life, but it’s bittersweet leaving my first job behind.  Thanks for the memories, T3 and ITVantage.  You’ll be missed.

New job, new outlook

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

It's hard to believe that it's been two months since I started my new job at Impulse Creative (wait, did I ever mention this new job?!)

Hold on.  Let's back up a second  After I left my job at ITVantage/T3, I spent a week in Minnesota with my family.  When I got back, I started my new job at a marketing and branding agency in Southwest Florida called Impulse Creative.  I work as an inbound marketing consultant to create remarkable content (blogs, social media, emails, website content, etc) for a set of clients.  My job is pretty sweet...I'm not going to lie.

The best part of my job is that even on the worst days, I still love going into work.  The worst part is that I have to go home at night.  I love what I do, and I'm proud of the work that I produce for my clients.  It's not always perfect, and sometimes it doesn't always work the way I had hoped - but that's how you learn.

Three months ago, when people told me that their job didn't feel like work, I thought they were full of shit (excuse my language).  But now, I get it.  I have a job that doesn't feel like a job, and it certainly doesn't feel like work.  It feels like I'm learning while doing something that I love.  I'm so thankful I was given this opportunity, and I can't wait to see where this takes me.

Do Salon Facials Help Clear Your Acne?

by Samantha Miller @ Acne Treatment Aid

There are a lot of different treatments available for acne. Some of them you can do yourself at home, while some of them have to be done at a doctor’s clinic. Some people go to salons to have theirs done, although a lot of questions are raised about this. How effective are salon facials for acne treatment? Are they safe? Let’s start with self-assessment. Acne is considered as a serious skin condition, especially if this is something that has been happening persistently on your skin. A lot of factors affect how your skin looks and why acne grows. These factors would determine what the best treatments are, and would somehow assess how serious your acne problem is. When did your acne start? Is this something that you have been experiencing as a teen, or is this your first experience with it? Are the breakouts relatively tame, or are they severe? How often do the breakouts happen? More serious cases of acne would have to be brought to a dermatologist to be examined. There is a big possibility that specialized treatments are needed to address these issues. For mild cases however, some opt for over the counter treatment or salon facials.

Product Review: HeadKandy and Original Diva Hair Extensions

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

For the past 4 years or so, I've had short hair, and always wanted to grow my hair long again, but I keep cutting it and it's been impossible. So I started wearing clip-in hair extensions. The first ones that I got were from a store in the mall. Sadly, they were horrible quality, had very little hair, and as I wore them, they got thinner and thinner, and I found white hairs in them. What's worse was that they costed me over $200, and they didn't look natural. When I wore them, you could tell that I was wearing extensions because my short hair would peek through underneath, or the sides would look weird.

After that I stayed off the extensions for a few years, but this year I made two hair extension purchases. One of which, was from HeadKandy.com. The other one was from OriginalDiva.com.au, which completely disappointed me after having high hopes for it based on the website and media.

The Original Diva hair extensions at first felt like heaven. The hair was SO soft, and never tangled. But they didn't look natural on my hair. I had that same problem, with my short hair showing at the nape of my neck, and the sides looking weird. And then I washed them once. Just once. And they're not soft anymore at all. They feel gross.

HeadKandy was the cheapest of them all, so my hopes weren't too high for them. I just thought, for as much hair as they say they come with, and for the price they offer, I might as well try it out. And they are amazing. They felt even softer than the Original Diva ones did at first. They blend right into my real hair, no hair at the nape of my neck shows, and the sides look completely natural. I've washed them three times now, and I've blow dried them because I never have the patience to wait for them to air dry, I straighten them everytime before I put them on, and I've even dyed them once, and they still feel amazingly soft, almost the same texture as my real hair. Given that they are so long (I got the longest length), they do tangle, but the tangles come right out when I run my fingers through them. Also HeadKandy does come with A LOT of hair. It's probably 4 or 5 times as much hair as my first set of hair extensions, and 2 times as much hair as the Original Diva ones. I do get strands of hair falling out here and there with these, but that's normal, and considering how much hair is in them, it doesn't seem to even matter.

Paper Towns by John Green

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

I was just thinking about this book that I read last summer.... Because I was asked, what do I want to do with my life? I don't even know anymore. I mean, I had all those dreams... But are they what I really want? I keep asking myself, and I keep changing my mind. I feel like I'm avoiding the future. But why does it matter? Why does the future really matter? Sometimes I just want to be a hobo and live a free life and be happy...

But maybe living a life like that wouldn't really make me happy. I don't know what I really want. Being able to have a comfortable home to live in, having food to eat, being able to afford a good education, and buy most of the things that I want, all makes me feel very lucky, and I'm grateful.... But I feel like I'm trapped in this world full of expectations. Its like, people are expected to follow this lifestyle. To have a home, a family, a job, a career, a good education...

"Did you know that for pretty much the entire history of the human species, the average life span was less than thirty years? You could count on ten years or so of real adulthood, right? There was no planning for retirement, There was no planning for a career. There was no planning. No time for plannning. No time for a future. But then the life spans started getting longer, and people started having more and more future. And now life has become the future. Every moment of your life is lived for the future--you go to high school so you can go to college so you can get a good job so you can get a nice house so you can afford to send your kids to college so they can get a good job so they can get a nice house so they can afford to send their kids to college."

And I'm stuck between the two. I can't decide what I really want.

A part of me wants to live that foraging lifestyle where I'd always be on the go. I wouldn't settle down with a permanent home. I wouldn't work or have a career and I wouldn't need to finish my post-secondary education. And I'd be free.

Another part of me wants to pursue a career, to become distinguished, renowned figure in society. But would I be happy with that? Even if it's a career that I choose, based on what I like to do, would I really be happy with it? I'd be tied down with it, for the rest of my life...

And then I thought of getting married and having a family and being a housewife for the rest of my life. But I don't feel like I can have people depend on me. I can't even depend on myself. And again, I'd be stuck with it for the rest of my life.

In the end, I just want a pleasant, comfortable life, but I don't want a career and I don't want a job. I don't want a family, I don't want any commitments or responsibilities, but I want to be loved and have people to love.

What can I do?

July/August 2014 Beauty Favorites

by noreply@blogger.com (Christina Bockisch) @ My Life in Wonderland

July and August have been "slow" months in terms of trying out new makeup.  I used a lot of the same products in July and August, so I figured it was easier to combine this blog into one post rather than two.  Here are my 6 favorite beauty favorites from July & August!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($22 at Sephora)
I got this as a sample from Urban Decay prior to the product being released, but I wasn't really all that excited about it.  Truth is, I own a few other high end mascara brands and I just don't find them to be that special.  I also know that what really makes a mascara awesome is the brush.  When I first used this mascara I looked at the brush and thought, "no thanks!"  I decided to use it anyway, and I was amazed at how well it lengthened my lashes and added volume.  A lot of mascaras make your lashes feel stiff, but what I love about UD Perversion is that it doesn't have that effect.  I'll definitely be purchasing the full-sized version once my sample runs out!

Bare Minerals Matte Foundation - shade: Medium Beige ($27 at Sephora)
Last month, I LOVED the Revlon Colorstay Foundation.  As it gets hotter and hotter this summer, I've found that liquid foundation just won't work for me because of how much I sweat (gross, I know).  What I love about the Bare Minerals matte foundation is that it doesn't break me out, it doesn't feel heavy and it looks natural.  I think of it as "my face but better."  Plus, a little goes a long way.  I don't wear foundation often, but this is my summer staple for the days I do.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadow ($5.99 per eyeshadow pan at MakeupGeek.com)
I've learned to do my makeup by watching YouTube videos, and Makeup Geek eyeshadows are a favorite among many beauty bloggers, including Jaclyn Hill.  From all of the reviews I've read, people say that they're similar in quality to MAC eyeshadows but at a fraction of the cost.  I don't own any MAC eyeshadows, so I can't speak to that.  However, I do know that these shadows are so pigmented, they go on smooth and they blend well.  I still plan on trying out MAC eyeshadows some day, but for now, I'm in love with my Makeup Geek shadows.

NYX Slide On Eye Pencil ($7.99 at Ulta)
I haven't been using a lot of eyeliner pencils lately, especially since it's summer.  Usually eyeliner pencils melt right off, but not this one!  It stands up to the heat and is truly waterproof.  Proof: One day at work I had a major meltdown and cried my eyes out for a few hours (sorry boss!).  I expected to go into the bathroom and see my eyeliner all over my face...but it didn't move.  All of my eyeliner (and mascara) was still there.  I couldn't believe it!

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Tube Pencil ($18 at Birchbox)
I got this lip pencil as a sample in my July Birchbox.  They sent me the purple shade, and at first, I was like, "Purple?! Oh hell no! They have me all wrong."  I tried it one day after work because my curiosity got the best of me, and I was in love from the moment I put it on.  The color is completely buildable and doesn't go on harsh or overwhelming.  It has a minty taste and slight tingle when you first put it on, which I loved!  I've used it a few times since then, and each time I fall in love a little more.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette ($29 at Sephora)
There's not much to say about these shadows except that they're matte and are great for those days when you want to wear makeup but still want it to look natural.  The shadows aren't chalky and they blend beautifully.  This palette has been a favorite of mine lately!

Are there any beauty products that you've been loving lately?  If so, let me know!  I'm always looking for new products to try!

Mineral Makeup Haul

by noreply@blogger.com (mango) @ Bold Drop.

Okay so I know it's been a long time since I last blogged.... I just haven't really been feeling like it. Again, I don't have any pictures... Because I've been waiting to get my new camera! But ever since I decided what camera I wanted, all the stores have been sold out. Hopefully I get my hands on that camera soon.

Like I mentioned before, I have made a couple hauls from two different mineral makeup brands, and I've tested them all out thoroughly now (except for the samples), so I can finally write about them.

First off, is Everyday Minerals.

Things I got are:
I got every single one of their brushes
Natural Reflections Fair
Soft Bronzer
Kaolin Powder Fair
Champagne
Utopia Blooms
All Smiles (Sample)
Intensive Medium Concealer (Sample)
Multi-Intensive Concealer/Eye Primer (Sample)
Sunlight Color Corrector (Sample)
At the Zoo (Exclusive)

The brushes.... I absolutely LOVE them. And they're really, really soft, and best yet, they're synthetic, cruelty free brushes. I've had no problems with shedding even when I washed them, which is great.

The Natural Reflections Fair, is supposed to set your makeup and mattify your skin. I haven't really used it though to tell how well it works. I guess I lied earlier about having tested them all thoroughly. I just kind of forgot about this one for some reason.

I really love the soft bronzer. I use it mainly for contouring, and it is a really soft bronzer, just a few shades darker than my natural skin tone, so it looks very natural.

The Kaolin Powder is for those who have oily, shiny skin. It's supposed to mattify the skin, and absorb oil from the skin. I've been using this a lot ever since I got it. I don't have oily skin at all, but for some reason my nose is always shiny, even right after washing it. It immediately mattifies it, and stays a matte finish throughout the entire day. I'm not too sure how it really works for absorbing oil and for oily skin, but it's great for my skin.

Champagne is a really subtle highlighter. It's really shimmery and goes on really nicely. I haven't used it very much since I got it though, because I haven't been much into the dewey look this summer for some reason.

Utopia Blooms is an eyeshadow collection with 25 different eyeshadow colours, and an eye smudge brush. They all come in the sample sizes, though they're not too small of a size. The colours are all very pretty. I haven't tried every single one of them yet, but so far, I have mixed opinions about them. Some seem to be more pigmented than others. They are buildable though.

All the other samples that I got, I haven't really tried enough to say anything about them, since they're the same sizes as the eyeshadow samples... Imagine trying to dip a blush brush into that. The concealer and colour correctors don't seem to work very well, but I've only tried once.

The At the Zoo exclusive I got for free with my order by entering a promo code, which I forgot. Everything is in sample sizes, with three eyeshadows, a blush, and a powder, and a Jr. Eye Kabuki Brush.

Also a note worth mentioning are the containers the full sized products come in. They are flatter than the usual mineral makeups, such as Bare Minerals, but larger in diameter. This means a bigger lid to swirl your brushes in. Which means less mess. I really love how the lids are so much bigger. And there's also a thing on the sifter that turns and covers up the holes so there's no mess when travelling with them, which is one thing I absolutely hated about many other mineral makeup brands.

The next brand is Signature Minerals.

I've been eyeing their brushes for a very, very long time now, and finally got them, along with some of their mineral makeup to try.

I ordered all of their brushes, a foundation, a blush, a soft radiance veil, concealer and colour corrector, and 6 sample eyeshadows.

The brushes were kind of a disappointment to me. The face powder brushes weren't as big and dense as I expected. Actually, they turned out to be a lot smaller than I had expected. The hairs are really soft though, and they are synthetic, cruelty free. I don't think I'd really agree that they feel like "pure silk" like it says on their website though. They feel just about the same as the Everyday Minerals brushes. I just really liked the look of the brushes... with the white and bluish grey tips. Don't like the look of the handles though, and the writing on them. I haven't had any shedding at all with these.

The foundation turned out to be too dark for my skin (I got #4.0) Even now that I've tanned a few shades darker than I normally am, it is way too dark. It did look too dark on the website, but I was reading the descriptions and it said:
"Yellow to Olive undertones.
For very light complexions with yellow or olive undertones.
Many of our very light Asian clients enjoy this shade along with Angel Wings Veil."
So I decided it must work for my skin. Apparently not.

The blush that I got was Desiree Peach. It looks kind of orange. It is very pigmented though, and has to be applied with a very light hand and I love the colour of it on my skin. I'm not too sure about how long it lasts though because I've only worn it a couple times and didn't take notice.

I have nothing to say about the soft radiance veil since I haven't used it at all yet.

The concealer and colour corrector seem to work really well. Especially considering that they are mineral makeups. I never thought mineral concealer would really be able to cover up my under eye circles, but it does! As for the colour corrector that I got, it was way too much for me. Too yellow, too pigmented, did correct the colour, but concealer on top of it couldn't even make it look normal. I looked like a raccoon or something after. Sometimes when I want even more coverage for my under eye circles I'd use a normal cream concealer, and then top it off with this concealer which sets it as well.

I have yet to try the eyeshadows because they came in little baggies, and I don't know... I'm just scared to open them up because I just know it'll be a huge mess. The colours look amazing though.

I also have to mention the containers for these. Well, for the foundation and blushes. They are smaller in diameter. Even smaller than Bare Minerals actually. Which makes it so difficult for me to tap the product into the lid and swirl my brush in it without getting powder everywhere. It's so messy! And there is no cover for the sifters. One thing I found cool about the sifters though, was that the plastic isn't hard like all the other ones I've come across. It's flexible. Kind of rubbery. But I don't think that makes any difference whatsoever. I just had to mention it.

So overall, I really do like Everyday Minerals, and not so much Signature Minerals. I probably won't ever buy from Signature Minerals again. Everyday Minerals... Maybe.... But I probably won't, just because there's so many others out there I want to try.
