23 Science-Backed Ways to Relax Your Mind

by Luisito Batongbakal @ Well-Being Secrets

Stress is part and parcel of American working life. It pushes you to become more efficient, productive, and motivated. As long as you let stress work for you, it can be your lifelong friend. Unfortunately, most of us do the exact opposite. According to a study published in the Harvard Gazette, 44% of working adults in the US admit that stress is affecting their health, but not exactly in a good way. It is estimated that work-related stress triggers a lot of sick leaves in corporate America, resulting in a staggering $30 billion worth of business losses every year. So,

The Newborn Essentials

by @ The Online Drugstore ©: Latest News

If you’re reading this, perhaps you’re getting ready to become a new parent. If so, congratulations! Maybe you’re wondering what newborn baby products you’ll need, so that when you bring your newborn home from the hospital, you’ll be ready to go. First time parents frequently have massive baby registries, and you might be surprised by how little you actually need.

Keep reading to learn the basics of what you should have for your baby.

  • New parents and well-meaning friends and family frequently go nuts when it comes to newborn baby clothing. We get it, it can be irresistable to get newborn designer outfits. It can also be a huge waste of money. Babies grow quickly, and they grow out of outfits fast. A good rule of thumb is for 80% of your newbor’s clothing to be used, and 20% new for special outings. Look online, ask friends who have kids, and you’ll be able to find huge amounts of newborn clothes for very little money.
  • Speaking of clothing and sleepers, sometimes parents-to-be are leery of used clothes, especially if there are stains on it. Trust us when we tell you, babies stain everything in all kinds of ways. If you can save some big money by accepting a stained jumper or sleeper, go for it.
  • While it’s okay to pick up a couple of pieces ahead of time, a smart decision is to wait until you know the birth weight of your baby before embarking on a shopping spree. Otherwise, you run the risk of sizes that either don’t fit at all, or are only useable for a few days.

The Newborn Essentials-Part 4

by @ The Online Drugstore ©: Latest News

Many people seem to plan for a new baby like they’re getting ready for a mountaineering expedition to Mount Everest. They spend an enormous amount of money and pick up lots of stuff that they don’t need. The fact is, you don’t need everything, and you honestly don’t need most things when it comes to prepping for a new baby.

Read on for more essentials of baby care products.

  • Babies are tiny, and their fingernails and toenails are nearly microscopic. When you’re trimming nails, instead of a nail clipper or scissors, an emory board will make the job much easier.
  • It can be tough to check the temperature of a squirming or cranky baby. Save yourself time with an ear thermometer, and you can check your baby’s temp when they’re down for a nap.
  • Most parents, after their kids grow, will do virtually anything to get rid of outdated baby supplies. Strollers, diaper bags, swings, baby carriers/slings, activity centers, and books are all items that you have no need to buy new. Lots of people list these items on sites like Craigslist for sale. Friends and family most likely have items they’re willing to part with, and they may even let you try them out ahead of time to see if you like it.
  • If you’re planning on having multiple children, try to get baby accessories that are gender neutral. While your baby won’t care about color one way or the other, you might feel a little weird putting your baby boy into a hot pink stroller.
  • Finally, be willing to be flexible. One baby may love an activity center, while your second baby wants nothing to do with it. Babies are not an exact science, and sometimes a little trial and error is what it takes.

The Newborn Essentials-Part 3

by @ The Online Drugstore ©: Latest News

Nobody really teaches you how to be a parent. There are no comprehensive classes telling you which baby care products you should have on hand. During the last couple of days, we’ve been offering a few tips for the essentials, the stuff you need, the stuff you don’t need, and a few ways to save a few bucks.

Read on for more necessities for newborns.

  • To get prepared for bottle and formula feeding, buy a bottle starter kit. They usually include 6-8 four ounce bottles with nippes, 6 8 ounce bottles with nipples, a washable bottle brush, and a small assortment of bibs. You can buy these separately, but you’ll end up paying a lot more.
  • If you’re planning on breastfeeding, pick up a few bibs, breast pads, which can be found in reusable or disposable styles, and breast pump and milk storage containers. A nursing pillow can make things more comfortable, but do your research and try to find a decent used pillow first.
  • You would think sleeping arrangements would be fairly straightforward, but there are a dizzying array of choices. First, consider a Pack N’ Play with a changer and bassinet. This will take care of your baby for the first month or so. Pick a stable and decent crib with a mattress, a couple of mattress covers, and 2 sets of fitted sheets. A swaddle blanket or baby sleeping bag can make life a little easier.
  • For safety reasons, never buy a used infant car seat. Buy new and do your research to find a brand and style you like. A parenting pro tip: if you’re not sure how to correctly install the infant car seat, just head over to your local police department. Officers are usually happy to install it correctly, and pass along some helpful safety information.

Reply To: What is the best and cheapest face cleaning product?

by Stephanie85 @ Makeup GeekWhat is the best and cheapest face cleaning product? – Makeup Geek

My skin is oily prone as well (especially during the summer).  Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash works great and is very affordable.  If you’re just looking for something cleansing for oily skin and having an acne fighting ingredient isn’t an issue for you I’ve heard lots of good things about Cetaphil cleansers, and I know they have one specifically formulated for oily skin.  Both cleansers can be found at any drugstore or supermarket.

Like someone else said, even if you have oily skin you need to moisturize too.  Washing your face too often and not moisturizing can actually make the problem worse by causing your skin to produce even MORE oil.  Plus, there are lots of moisturizers out there that have ingredients to help absorb excess oil.  I personally use the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion by The Body Shop.  It’s a little more than I usually like to spend on moisturizer (you can get it for about $13 at Ulta), but it’s the only thing I’ve found that keeps my skin completely de-slicked during the hot and humid Houston summers.

Reply To: What is the best and cheapest face cleaning product?

by @ Makeup GeekWhat is the best and cheapest face cleaning product? – Makeup Geek

Hello fellow makeupgeeks,

I would like to agree to some of your that mentioned that we need to moisturize even if we have oily/combo skin. However, let me just give my thoughts on the proper procedure on skin care.

First, I don’t want to sound to conceited or bragging on this, but this is just what I do on my clients. I am a professional makeup artist and I like helping people on their skin regimen that is why I posted my thoughts on this.

  1. Step 1: CLEANSE/CLEANSING. Skin cleansers would always depend on each skin type. People who have oily or combo/oily skin may want to consider using gel type cleansers, liquid form or lotion type cleansers. Avoid using cleansers in a creamy type, as this may just trigger your skin on producing more oil than the usual. Sometimes, oily skin may become acne prone because of the excessive secretion of sebum in our skin. You may need to use an acne medication cleansers (oil-free).

For dry skin, use creamy type of cleansers as it may help your skin have that needed moisture which this skin type lacks.

2. Step 2: TONE. After we have cleansed the skin, toning or using toners is an important step on achieving healthier skin. One          misconception or myth on toning is they are supposed to remove the make up residues that our cleanser leaves behind.  However, the main purpose of using a toner is to bring back the pH of our skin back to its balanced state. Toning will help keep your skin clear and firm by leaving you with a layer of new healthy skin cells.

3. Step 3: MOISTURIZE. The last step on keeping our skin feeling young and healthy looking is moisturizing. It replenishes/gives back the natural moisture which can help prevent break-outs, early wrinkles, and dull looking skin. Moisturizers may also vary upon your skin type. The same thing on choosing cleansers, if you have oily skin or acne prone skin, use a lightweight moisturizer in gel type, lotion type or liquid type. You may also like to consider a moisturizer with UV protection if you are always exposed to the sun. For dry skin, a cream type of moisturizer is best. However, don’t apply too much, as this will feel heavy, and prevent your skin from breathing.  Also make sure all excess cream is rubbed in.

You may also put moisturizer to your throat and neck.

Step 4: PRIME. (Optional) Step 4 is optional if you are not to put make up on. So this depends on the situation.

These are the products I normally use, it may be effective on my skin type (oily/combo/acne prone) but may not work for you. Test first, and observe if your skin will react.

Neutrogena Acne Medication Wash (oil free) – pretty cheap around $5.

clean & clear Advance cleanser for acne or oily skin

Cetaphil Gel Cleanser for oily skin

Purity-Philosophy – this can really remove all makeup residue, including waterproof mascara.

Murad Cleanser – for acne prone

I hope I was able to address some concerns. I am sharing my knowledge to help us be more sensitive on our skin so we can all achieve a healthy and glowing skin. Hope i helped you guys from this.

*Feel young, look young :) :)

xoxo!

Kaye

Hands down, the best CHEAP face wash for all types of skin, but especially oily (I have dry and can still use this with a face lotion after) is

Basis cleaner clean Face Wash.

It’s only 4$ at cvs/Walgreens/Walmart and it is a surprisingly amazing deep cleaner. It is ‘100% oil free and soap free with botanicals that foam away makeup, dirt, oil and pollution fast for clean and refreshed skin’.  When they say refreshed they mean it! There no other word to describe how your skin feels when your done, aside from super clean. This stuff really gets down in your pores and is extremely effective for eliminating oil (say that five times fast! Lol)

I use and have tried countless facewashes of all brands and prices. This stuff def give you a bang for your buck. For four bucks you got nothing to lose. Use in morning or at night and follow with an oil free moisturizer. As the others said, even oily skin needs some lotion, you just need to get the right type for your skin. Aveeno makes some lovely ones for all different skin types. I believe the one you need comes with the green top, oil free and lightweight  won’t add any unwanted shine leaving your skin soft. These run about 15$ but it is a nice amount and will last, you only need one pump a day.

Def try the Basis Cleaner Clean wash if anything. I promise it will make your face and wallet happy :) good luck!

3 More Fat Melting Supplements

by @ The Online Drugstore ©: Latest News

There’s no doubt that an obesity epidemic is sweeping America. While some people are just “born thin,” many of us have to work like crazy to get the pounds off and keep them off. Yesterday, we discussed a few nutritional supplements that, when combined with regular exercise and responsible eating habits, can supercharge your body and help you to lose those stubborn pounds. Keep reading for 3 more common supplements that will help you to melt off the fat.

  • This one is a mouthful, but have you ever heard of monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFA’s? Simply put, this is a kind of fat that’s found in plentiful amounts in foods like peanut butter, seeds, chocolate, avocados, nuts, and olive oil. Researchers have found that, when 20% of the calories from a person’s daily diet comes from MUFA’s over a long term period of time, a small but significant uptick takes place in fat burning and calorie burning. These foods also keep your appetite down and maintain your blood sugar levels.
  • Conjugated linoleic acids are found in dairy products along with calcium and vitamin D. These acids help to push glucose into your cells and stimulate fat burning. CLA’s won’t create a massive amount of fat burning, but when you eat them regularly in conjunction with the other supplements, it can nudge the efficiency of your metabolism in a stronger direction.
  • Green tea is packed with polyphenols, an antioxidant which is your metabolism’s best friend. Researchers have found that in can jack your resting metabolic rate by as much as 17%. The warm feeling you get when you drink green tea is caused by your body heating up and burning calories as heat. A cup of green tea is not only perfect for a cold day, but it’s a perfect appetite suppressant.

I saw the Neutrogena hand held cleaner where you can get different types of pads to accommodate different types of faces. I personally own one and I love it!! I had some real bad chin acne and it was going away with in the next 2 days!! Now this isn’t due to the machine its self lol! But I have the little blue pads that go on it this is very good for morning time to wake you up and it sweeps away what you shedded during the night! At night time they have pads that you can buy to exfoliate they have a coarse like pad and one that isn’t so harsh on the skin I have the second one. It works well! I’m just now liking what I’m seeing!! Hope you find what your looking for!!! :D

I’m not a skin care rep, dematologist, makeup guru, but I can share from experience. I’m a bargain shopper, so I hate paying more than $10 for a product that won’t last me at least a few months. Prior to pregnancy I had very oily skin. During pregnancy I had combo/oily, and now after pregnancy I have normal skin. I’ve tried the following cleansers:

Mary Kay TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleansing bar
Mary Kay TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleanser Combo/oily (gel product)
Olay Total Effects Cleansers
Aveeno cleansers
Proactive
Clean and Clear cleansers

I love Mary Kay’s TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleansing Bar http://www.marykay.com/skincare/cleansers/cleansers/10027914/default.aspx. I’m really lazy when it comes to cleaning my face, and I really don’t like multiple steps to removing makeup etc.  I’m a new mommy, so I don’t have much time for myself. I didn’t like their 3-In-1-Cleanser in Combo/Oily because I have to use a toner after cleansing.

I usually wash my face twice just to make sure I got everything off. I know I’m supposed to use eye makeup remover, but again, I’m lazy and I don’t have much time. I’ve noticed that I don’t need a toner with this bar. This bar is great for all skin types. I always use an eye cream and moisturizer after.

Since you have oily skin, I recommend looking for a light weight moisturizer. Perhaps a gel moisturizer will be good for you. Prior to pregnancy I had oily skin. During pregnancy I had combo/oily skin. Now after birth, I have normal skin. Always always always moisturizer after cleansing. Someone explained to me that when you wash your face, you remove the oils you skin makes. You need to replenish the oils removed so that your face doesn’t overcompensate and make more oil.

Moisturizers I like:

1. I really like the Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream.  It’s super light weight, doesn’t feel greasy, and absorbs extremely quickly.

2. I also like the Mary Kay TimeWise Age-Fighting Moisturizer in Combo/Oily. This is another light weight moisturizer that absorbs quickly and is not greasy.

Neutrogena didn’t work for me as I broke out with them. One great thing is that most drugstores and Ulta will take a product back if it breaks you out.

A few other things to keep in mind is to stay away from any moisturizers that have “natural light diffusers” such as Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer, and products with shimmer. These natural light diffusers and shimmer products make the skin look more oily throughout the day.

Happy hunting!

Reply To: What is the best and cheapest face cleaning product?

by 4misstish @ Makeup GeekWhat is the best and cheapest face cleaning product? – Makeup Geek

I took my daughter to the dermatologist and the recommended Cerave, it comes in a cleanser and a lotion. The cleanser deserves serious consideration by anyone with normal to dry skin that’s also sensitive, including those dealing with rosacea. It is an exceptionally gentle, soothing cleanser that contains several ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. The moisturizing lotion is the lotion version of a Moisturizing Cream, and other than having a lighter texture and smoother dry-down, the same formulary comments apply. The blend of glycerin, ceramides, cholesterol, and hyaluronic acid will help normal to dry skin look and feel very good.

I, along with my daughter and husband began using these and can tell a remarkable difference in our skin. The dermatologist said it was “One of those little hidden treasures no one ever hears about.” Boy, he wasn’t kidding! I will never use another face product. He said he also recommends this to people with mild to sever Rosacea and they see wondeful results as well.

I remove my makeup with Bioderma, which is easy to find and cheap here, unlike in the US. But for cleansing I love the oil cleansing method (ou can read everything about it here: http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/

Twice a week I use my own blend of almond and castor oil, which helps hugely with blackeads but the castor oil being drying, I can’t use that daily. On other days I use almond alone, or a Shu Uemura oil but that one isn’t cheap at all.

I have uber oily skin, and I swear by the oil cleansing method. I use it every night both as my cleansing step as well as my makeup removal step. I believe it’s helped to balance out the over production of oil, and has done wonders for the blackhead issue I use to have. I use my own blend, camelia oil based without any castor oil, and a native herb which makes it foam when you at water and massage so it’s easier to rinse off.

However, in the morning I use Etude House Happy Teatime Cleansing Foam. Essentially, you squeeze a pea size amount of the cream product into your hand, add a little water and rub your hands together to create a microfoam which you then use to wash your face. Given it comes in a large 150ml tube and you need only such a tiny amount, it really does go a long way. You can buy it on eBay for $7us (inc shipping), it comes in a few different types, and is surprisingly good given it’s gentle and leaves my skin feeling soft rather than stripped bare (an issue I have with a majority of cleansers).

Oil Cleansing Method (use your Google-fu ;)). I know it sounds crazy, but there are those who swear by it, including ones with oily skin. (Personally, I’ve never tried it; I don’t think it’s for me.)

Meanwhile, a question: Do you moisturize your skin after cleansing it? If you don’t, it may exacerbate the problem.

Even us oily gals need to moisturize after cleansing. *nods*

If you’d like a product rec, currently I’m using one by Bioderma called Sebium Mat. (It’s a bit expensive Stateside, but the brand is more widely available in Canada and in Europe.)

http://www.amazon.com/Bioderma-Laboratorie-Dermatologique-S%C3%A9bium-Mat-40/dp/B0018RGL1G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1PEPK1CW6AGXT&coliid=I2XQSYKX50VNOQ

For a less expensive option, I also like Alba Sea Moss Moisturizer. It’s not a mattifying moisturizer, but it gets the job done, IMO. Also contains SPF 15.

Stuff Your Baby Doesn’t Really Need

by @ The Online Drugstore ©: Latest News

There are hundreds of newborn baby products, a vast array of things that the manufacturers claim you absolutely must buy for your baby. We’re told as new parents we need all this stuff to raise a healthy child. But the truth is, for thousands of years parents had babies and got by perfectly fine without owning a locally made wipes warmer.

Keep reading for a few products that, honestly, you don’t really need.

  • You know how we mentioned wipes warmers? Take a moment and think, what precisely do they do? Really, they just keep a cold wipe from touching your baby’s rear end. If that’s a concern to you, just warm up a washcloth in warm water.
  • Some parents will become enchanted by a crib set they see while shopping for a crib. These sets usually cost upwards of $100 and include a comforter, bumper pads, sheets, some pillows, a dust ruffle, a mobile, and perhaps some curtains. Problem is, there’s a risk of suffocation with bumper pads, pillows, loose blankets and quilts. All you really need are single fitted sheets, a few waterproof mattress pads in case of accidents, and a dust ruffle to tie the whole thing together.
  • Bassinets can be fun and great looking. However, they’re also an almost complete waste of money. Why? The main problem is that their weight limit is pretty low, and babies pack on the pounds quickly. A smarter buy is a Pack N’ Play, which have enormous versatility. You can use them at home, bring them along for trips, and they can keep your baby entertained if you’re busy. For those of us who are prepping for an infant and are on a budget, it’s a no-brainer.

Now, that being said, I’ve been very impressed by the new Simple  brand skincare products.  I’ve tried their cleansing wipes, exfoliating wipes, refreshing cleansing gel and the moisturizing facial wash.  They’re relatively inexpensive, especially if you can get them on sale.  I hit a buy one, get one 50% off sale at Rite-Aid.  The cleansing wipes are even gentle enough that I remove eye makeup as well as face makeup with them.

The Newborn Essentials-Part 2

by @ The Online Drugstore ©: Latest News

Welcome back! If you’re preparing for the birth of your baby, odds are you have questions. You might be making plans regarding which newborn baby products you’ll need. The thing is, many first time parents over prepare, and they end up with far more stuff than they actually need. Don’t worry about it, that’s what we’re here for.

Keep reading for more of the essentials you’ll need for your newborn.

  • Bath time doesn’t have to turn into a huge production. To save money, buy a used plastic infant tub. If you want to be even thriftier, bathe your newborn in the sink, or take baths together.
  • Parenting veterans will shudder uncontrollably when you say the word “diapers.” Not because they can be gross (They can), but because they can be expensive. As a new parent, don’t make the same mistake. If you opt for washable cloth diapers over disposables, with one child alone you’ll save a whopping $1700. Plus, if you’re environmentally conscious, you won’t have to worry about pounds of dirty diapers ending up in a landfill.
  • Along similar lines, don’t throw away your money with disposable wipes. Use washcloths or cloth nappies. Organic coconut oil is also safe for babies, safe for cloth diapers, and great for handling diaper rash.
  • Whatever kind of diapers you opt for, don’t load up on newborn sizes. Babies grow fast, so be sure to just buy what you need.
  • Should you buy a changing table. Well...we’ll put it this way, it’s not essential. Instead, buy a Pack N’ Play and do your changing business on top of a dresser or table.
