Cheap Neutrogena Makeup

For rosacea, be sure that whatever foundation you choose has sunscreen.  You may even want plain sunscreen on top of foundation-with-sunscreen.

I learned from two dermatologists that most of what you read about rosacea (avoid caffeine, avoid alcohol, etc.) is nonsense and that it's caused exclusively by the sun.

ETA: I mix L'Oreal foundation from the drugstore with some Eucerin Sensitve Skin moisturizer with SPF 30.

Powders have the longest shelf life as Kim pointed out. If you are worried about bacteria, I would recommend investing in a quality brush that you can keep clean faithfully without it shedding. You can also spritz brush with brush cleaner after use (in between washings) to keep bacteria at bay.

If you want to try something liquid that has sunscreen, nearly every line has a BB cream so you can find any price point. If you have an ULTA near you, there have tons of testers and can make samples even of drugstore brands.

Hands down, the best CHEAP face wash for all types of skin, but especially oily (I have dry and can still use this with a face lotion after) is

Basis cleaner clean Face Wash.

It’s only 4$ at cvs/Walgreens/Walmart and it is a surprisingly amazing deep cleaner. It is ‘100% oil free and soap free with botanicals that foam away makeup, dirt, oil and pollution fast for clean and refreshed skin’.  When they say refreshed they mean it! There no other word to describe how your skin feels when your done, aside from super clean. This stuff really gets down in your pores and is extremely effective for eliminating oil (say that five times fast! Lol)

I use and have tried countless facewashes of all brands and prices. This stuff def give you a bang for your buck. For four bucks you got nothing to lose. Use in morning or at night and follow with an oil free moisturizer. As the others said, even oily skin needs some lotion, you just need to get the right type for your skin. Aveeno makes some lovely ones for all different skin types. I believe the one you need comes with the green top, oil free and lightweight  won’t add any unwanted shine leaving your skin soft. These run about 15$ but it is a nice amount and will last, you only need one pump a day.

Def try the Basis Cleaner Clean wash if anything. I promise it will make your face and wallet happy :) good luck!

I've got rosacea and have worn bare minerals powder for well over 10 years now.  Lately I've noticed I felt chalky and ashy in it, probably due to the change in my hair color.  as of yesterday I tried out the liquid BareSkin and I like it.

One idea might be to wear a tinted moisturizer/bb cream that you like, there are several that are good for sensitive skin in the drug stores, then just the BM foundation just when you need it.  you can find travel sizes on amazon.  use the mineral veil each day for shine, or try a bronzer on top of the foundation for a little more color.

I triple all the advice about sunscreen. I use the cetaphil spf 50 moisturizer each day and it helps a LOT.  I also use Eucerin skin calming lotion at night and the Aveeno ultra calming makeup remover.

Even us oily gals need to moisturize after cleansing. *nods*

If you’d like a product rec, currently I’m using one by Bioderma called Sebium Mat. (It’s a bit expensive Stateside, but the brand is more widely available in Canada and in Europe.)

For a less expensive option, I also like Alba Sea Moss Moisturizer. It’s not a mattifying moisturizer, but it gets the job done, IMO. Also contains SPF 15.

My skin is oily prone as well (especially during the summer).  Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash works great and is very affordable.  If you’re just looking for something cleansing for oily skin and having an acne fighting ingredient isn’t an issue for you I’ve heard lots of good things about Cetaphil cleansers, and I know they have one specifically formulated for oily skin.  Both cleansers can be found at any drugstore or supermarket.

Like someone else said, even if you have oily skin you need to moisturize too.  Washing your face too often and not moisturizing can actually make the problem worse by causing your skin to produce even MORE oil.  Plus, there are lots of moisturizers out there that have ingredients to help absorb excess oil.  I personally use the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion by The Body Shop.  It’s a little more than I usually like to spend on moisturizer (you can get it for about $13 at Ulta), but it’s the only thing I’ve found that keeps my skin completely de-slicked during the hot and humid Houston summers.

I also use the Seaweed mask once a month for a deeper clean.

I have uber oily skin, and I swear by the oil cleansing method. I use it every night both as my cleansing step as well as my makeup removal step. I believe it’s helped to balance out the over production of oil, and has done wonders for the blackhead issue I use to have. I use my own blend, camelia oil based without any castor oil, and a native herb which makes it foam when you at water and massage so it’s easier to rinse off.

However, in the morning I use Etude House Happy Teatime Cleansing Foam. Essentially, you squeeze a pea size amount of the cream product into your hand, add a little water and rub your hands together to create a microfoam which you then use to wash your face. Given it comes in a large 150ml tube and you need only such a tiny amount, it really does go a long way. You can buy it on eBay for $7us (inc shipping), it comes in a few different types, and is surprisingly good given it’s gentle and leaves my skin feeling soft rather than stripped bare (an issue I have with a majority of cleansers).

Ditto for me 100%. I get the Ross terry cloths (generally dark brown) for the rental. I find the Walmart one’s too thin.

But for my make-up removal, I like a little more bulk to the terry and just use soap and water. Don’t care for towelettes but will use them for travel.

Costco sells all purpose white terrycloth towels (13x16) in packs of 30-40 (?) for about $11 or so. They are found where the blue or orange automotive shop towels are. A pack will easily last 2-3 yrs. I use them in the kitchen for drying pots/pans and dishes, as hand towels and general wipe-up duties. They are very absorbent and fluffy after the first wash.

I also keep some the bathrooms under the sink for hand towel use and wipe-up. I don’t mingle the kitchen/bathroom towels because the kitchen towels do eventually become stained (carrots, etc.) and I like to keep the bathroom ones pristine white.

After the kitchen one’s become stained, I cut the towels into fourths. I fold them and keep them a little stack next to the sink so l can grab a fresh one and wash the ‘paint’ off my face. Then I take a regular size one and blot dry. After a few uses, I discard them because the edges aren’t sewn and become frayed after washing. We’re talking pennies.

I totally agree that you can’t beat terry cloth for make-up removal and giving that totally clean feeling. The texture of a microfiber cloth feels icky on the face.

I have a lot of chemical sensitivities and Bare Minerals is the first makeup I've ever worn without feeling sick, but I'm also wondering if a liquid rather than powder would be good as I get older.

And I agree with people that loose powder doesn't go bad for a long time. I do try to wash my brush very often, though.

I've still got acne and I'm almost 30. Usually the cheap make-up makes me break out, so I wear Bareminerals matte. I imagine once my skin drys out (which they keep saying will happen) I'll have to switch to liquid, but powders for now. I would suggest getting a good brush and really washing it at least once a week. I put a little brush soap or baby shampoo in a jar with some water and swirl the brush around it to make sure I get everything out. It usually takes a few rinses, but it has helped.

by @ Makeup GeekWhat is the best and cheapest face cleaning product? – Makeup Geek

Hello fellow makeupgeeks,

I would like to agree to some of your that mentioned that we need to moisturize even if we have oily/combo skin. However, let me just give my thoughts on the proper procedure on skin care.

First, I don’t want to sound to conceited or bragging on this, but this is just what I do on my clients. I am a professional makeup artist and I like helping people on their skin regimen that is why I posted my thoughts on this.

  1. Step 1: CLEANSE/CLEANSING. Skin cleansers would always depend on each skin type. People who have oily or combo/oily skin may want to consider using gel type cleansers, liquid form or lotion type cleansers. Avoid using cleansers in a creamy type, as this may just trigger your skin on producing more oil than the usual. Sometimes, oily skin may become acne prone because of the excessive secretion of sebum in our skin. You may need to use an acne medication cleansers (oil-free).

For dry skin, use creamy type of cleansers as it may help your skin have that needed moisture which this skin type lacks.

2. Step 2: TONE. After we have cleansed the skin, toning or using toners is an important step on achieving healthier skin. One          misconception or myth on toning is they are supposed to remove the make up residues that our cleanser leaves behind.  However, the main purpose of using a toner is to bring back the pH of our skin back to its balanced state. Toning will help keep your skin clear and firm by leaving you with a layer of new healthy skin cells.

3. Step 3: MOISTURIZE. The last step on keeping our skin feeling young and healthy looking is moisturizing. It replenishes/gives back the natural moisture which can help prevent break-outs, early wrinkles, and dull looking skin. Moisturizers may also vary upon your skin type. The same thing on choosing cleansers, if you have oily skin or acne prone skin, use a lightweight moisturizer in gel type, lotion type or liquid type. You may also like to consider a moisturizer with UV protection if you are always exposed to the sun. For dry skin, a cream type of moisturizer is best. However, don’t apply too much, as this will feel heavy, and prevent your skin from breathing.  Also make sure all excess cream is rubbed in.

I took my daughter to the dermatologist and the recommended Cerave, it comes in a cleanser and a lotion. The cleanser deserves serious consideration by anyone with normal to dry skin that’s also sensitive, including those dealing with rosacea. It is an exceptionally gentle, soothing cleanser that contains several ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. The moisturizing lotion is the lotion version of a Moisturizing Cream, and other than having a lighter texture and smoother dry-down, the same formulary comments apply. The blend of glycerin, ceramides, cholesterol, and hyaluronic acid will help normal to dry skin look and feel very good.

I, along with my daughter and husband began using these and can tell a remarkable difference in our skin. The dermatologist said it was “One of those little hidden treasures no one ever hears about.” Boy, he wasn’t kidding! I will never use another face product. He said he also recommends this to people with mild to sever Rosacea and they see wondeful results as well.

Baby wipes and makeup remover are not at all interchangeable. Baby wipes have moisturizers and very often anti-bacterial agents and diaper rash “preventers.” Not at all appropriate for someone’s face.

I have neutrogena and Kirkland wipes available (both bought at Costco) along with some Costco white washcloths for use by people who bring their own remover. For whatever reason, I have not attracted many folks who use much makeup. Boston is not a makeup kind-of town, so maybe people feel comfortable being out and about without too much? Have no idea. I don’t wear the stuff myself, so I haven’t tested either product that is in the room. I can say, the Neutrogena is used more often which isn’t surprising. People love name brands.

HI Susan,

Thanks very much for letting me know that baby wipes won’t work for makeup removal. Thankfully, we’ve only had one guest who ruined linens with makeup. We’ve checked and it isn’t cost effective for us to join Costco.

I will preface my reply by saying that I have dry, sensitive skin, so there’s a good chance that the products that work for me won’t work for you.

Now, that being said, I’ve been very impressed by the new Simple  brand skincare products.  I’ve tried their cleansing wipes, exfoliating wipes, refreshing cleansing gel and the moisturizing facial wash.  They’re relatively inexpensive, especially if you can get them on sale.  I hit a buy one, get one 50% off sale at Rite-Aid.  The cleansing wipes are even gentle enough that I remove eye makeup as well as face makeup with them.

My rosacea has quieted down a lot since I started using Cetaphil cleanser and Cetaphil moisturizer with sunscreen; on top, I brush on a thin wash of Estee Lauder double light foundation mixed with advanced night repair serum.  Mineral make-up dried my skin too much.

The Bear Wipes by Josie Maran are also great!

Hi, I don't have much of an answer, but I will tell you that I had some amazing luck with coconut oil to treat rosacea ... not sure how that would work with the acne, although I was told it is not pore-clogging ... but it worked wonders on the redness. Just an aside, but thought it was worth sharing.

I saw the Neutrogena hand held cleaner where you can get different types of pads to accommodate different types of faces. I personally own one and I love it!! I had some real bad chin acne and it was going away with in the next 2 days!! Now this isn’t due to the machine its self lol! But I have the little blue pads that go on it this is very good for morning time to wake you up and it sweeps away what you shedded during the night! At night time they have pads that you can buy to exfoliate they have a coarse like pad and one that isn’t so harsh on the skin I have the second one. It works well! I’m just now liking what I’m seeing!! Hope you find what your looking for!!! :D

[quote=“barefootNM, post:18, topic:11282, full:true”]
Half of the people on this forum are saying that white towels are great because they can be bleached and the other half are saying that you shouldn’t use bleach on them because it will damage them. I’m so confused!

White towels are great because they can be bleached if necessary to remove certain stains. They shouldn’t be bleached regularly because of yellowing or breaking down the fiber. Confusing but not really contradictory.

I find L'Oreal True Match liquid foundation is good for covering redness in the skin. I am not sure about the pricing at your location though. Most places it tends to fall into drugstore range. If your Rosacea is triggered by certain ingredients in makeup, you can also look at brands like Bioderma or Avene that have specialized skincare & makeup options.

Actually, you likely don't have to throw away the mineral makeup.  The water in makeup is what can grow bacteria and is the reason we need to discard it. Since there isn't any in mineral make up you don't have the same issues.  You will have throw away any make up you buy that is liquid long before you ever use it up, so I'd go back to the minerals if it's working for you.

I loved my mineral makeup, but found as I got older it wasn't doing me any favors (sadly!)

Oil Cleansing Method (use your Google-fu ;)). I know it sounds crazy, but there are those who swear by it, including ones with oily skin. (Personally, I’ve never tried it; I don’t think it’s for me.)

Meanwhile, a question: Do you moisturize your skin after cleansing it? If you don’t, it may exacerbate the problem.

So the next question, who is actually going to try something different. I think one of the hardest things to do is try something new when you have something you like. I always think I might like something else better but what if causes me to break out or I don’t like it and waste my money? But, I may just try something new and see what happens. Melaine on "ISO: cheap makeup for acne/rosacea"

I am definitely a makeup minimalist. I have been using bare minerals for years but have reached the conclusion that it is too expensive for my light use. In other words, I am spending $50 on it and then throwing it out from age way before it gets used up. I wear makeup maybe 2 times a week. I want to put it on more but it just isn't high priority for me. My skin is a little problematic. I still have breakouts and recently diagnosed with rosacea but my skin is also painfully dry so some products for acne tend to not work well.

I am wondering if it is time to go back to a liquid foundation. I once used Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation...does anyone recommend it? Can you recommend any drugstore brands that I might try? Thanks for your help!

I am not much help. Like you, I have sensitive skin, but mine is because I am allergic to most of the scents used in cosmetics and some of the dyes.

I also struggle with acne despite closing in on 40.

I started using a tinted BB cream from Oil of Olay with sunscreen. I can get it easily, it is light enough for daily use, and it takes me less than a minute to apply. I put this overtop a serum, dye free and scent free, also from Oil of Olay. I use it for the same reasons as above.

I’m not a skin care rep, dematologist, makeup guru, but I can share from experience. I’m a bargain shopper, so I hate paying more than $10 for a product that won’t last me at least a few months. Prior to pregnancy I had very oily skin. During pregnancy I had combo/oily, and now after pregnancy I have normal skin. I’ve tried the following cleansers:

Mary Kay TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleansing bar
Mary Kay TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleanser Combo/oily (gel product)
Olay Total Effects Cleansers
Aveeno cleansers
Proactive
Clean and Clear cleansers

I love Mary Kay’s TimeWise 3-In-1 Cleansing Bar http://www.marykay.com/skincare/cleansers/cleansers/10027914/default.aspx. I’m really lazy when it comes to cleaning my face, and I really don’t like multiple steps to removing makeup etc.  I’m a new mommy, so I don’t have much time for myself. I didn’t like their 3-In-1-Cleanser in Combo/Oily because I have to use a toner after cleansing.

I usually wash my face twice just to make sure I got everything off. I know I’m supposed to use eye makeup remover, but again, I’m lazy and I don’t have much time. I’ve noticed that I don’t need a toner with this bar. This bar is great for all skin types. I always use an eye cream and moisturizer after.

Since you have oily skin, I recommend looking for a light weight moisturizer. Perhaps a gel moisturizer will be good for you. Prior to pregnancy I had oily skin. During pregnancy I had combo/oily skin. Now after birth, I have normal skin. Always always always moisturizer after cleansing. Someone explained to me that when you wash your face, you remove the oils you skin makes. You need to replenish the oils removed so that your face doesn’t overcompensate and make more oil.

Moisturizers I like:

1. I really like the Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream.  It’s super light weight, doesn’t feel greasy, and absorbs extremely quickly.

2. I also like the Mary Kay TimeWise Age-Fighting Moisturizer in Combo/Oily. This is another light weight moisturizer that absorbs quickly and is not greasy.

Neutrogena didn’t work for me as I broke out with them. One great thing is that most drugstores and Ulta will take a product back if it breaks you out.

A few other things to keep in mind is to stay away from any moisturizers that have “natural light diffusers” such as Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer, and products with shimmer. These natural light diffusers and shimmer products make the skin look more oily throughout the day.

Happy hunting!

I remove my makeup with Bioderma, which is easy to find and cheap here, unlike in the US. But for cleansing I love the oil cleansing method (ou can read everything about it here: http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/

Twice a week I use my own blend of almond and castor oil, which helps hugely with blackeads but the castor oil being drying, I can’t use that daily. On other days I use almond alone, or a Shu Uemura oil but that one isn’t cheap at all.

Definitely look into Neutrogena. They have products for all types of skin, and I am currently obsessed with their Oil Free Grapefruit Wash, which is amazing for oily skin, especially if you have common breakouts. I also use Oxy Face Wipes(3 in 1) and they work quite well to cleanse skin:)

Probably…I’m not sure to be honest. They could well be the same product just marketed differently. I bet people wouldn’t use them though as perception is everything when it comes to brands/products. Just look at the way people stick to premium grocery brands when the cheap ‘no frills’ options are often exactly the same. It has a lot to do with packaging.
Personally I travel with all my own toiletries, the only thing I’d use is probably soap and shower gel. I do think it should be up to the guest to bring their own, but then it all comes back to them ruining washcloths! I think that’s one problem that won’t ever go away

Just edited to add: if there was a disposable microfibre facecloth provided, I would definitely use it. They are so much nicer on the skin than washcloths. Surely they must be available in bulk somewhere? Even better if they were in a little labelled package to make it clear exactly what they’re for, and so it’s clear to the guest it’s brand new and hasn’t been used before
